1 Then the fifth angel sounded his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from heaven to earth, and it was given the key to the pit of the Abyss. And the fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star fallen from heaven to earth, and he was given the key to the shaft of the bottomless pit. And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. Then the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star from heaven which had fallen to the earth; and the key to the shaft of the abyss was given to him. 2 The star opened the pit of the Abyss, and smoke rose out of it like the smoke of a great furnace, and the sun and the air were darkened by the smoke from the pit. He opened the shaft of the bottomless pit, and from the shaft rose smoke like the smoke of a great furnace, and the sun and the air were darkened with the smoke from the shaft. And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. He opened the shaft of the abyss, and smoke ascended out of the shaft like the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened from the smoke of the shaft. When he opened the Abyss, smoke rose from it like the smoke from a gigantic furnace. The sun and sky were darkened by the smoke from the Abyss.
3 And out of the smoke, locusts descended on the earth, and they were given power like that of the scorpions of the earth. Then from the smoke came locusts on the earth, and they were given power like the power of scorpions of the earth. And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. Then out of the smoke came locusts upon the earth, and power was given them, as the scorpions of the earth have power. And out of the smoke locusts came down on the earth and were given power like that of scorpions of the earth.
4 They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree, but only those who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads. They were not allowed to kill them but only to torture them for five months. And the agony they suffered was like that of the sting of a scorpion when it strikes.
6 In those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will long to die, but death will escape them. And in those days people will seek death and will not find it. 7 And the locusts looked like horses prepared for battle, with something like crowns of gold on their heads, and faces like the faces of men. And this is how I saw the horses in my vision and those who rode them: they wore breastplates the color of fire and of sapphire and of sulfur, and the heads of the horses were like lions’ heads, and fire and smoke and sulfur came out of their mouths. And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses <i>were</i> as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone. And this is how I saw in my vision the horses and those who sat on them: <i>the riders</i> had breastplates <i>the color</i> of fire, of hyacinth, and of brimstone; and the heads of the horses are like the heads of lions; and out of their mouths came fire and smoke and brimstone. The horses and riders I saw in my vision looked like this: Their breastplates were fiery red, dark blue, and yellow as sulfur. 18 A third of mankind was killed by the three plagues of fire, smoke, and sulfur that proceeded from their mouths. By these three plagues a third of mankind was killed, by the fire and smoke and sulfur coming out of their mouths. By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths. 20 Now the rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the works of their hands. 21 Furthermore, they did not repent of their murder, sorcery, sexual immorality, and theft. nor did they repent of their murders or their sorceries or their sexual immorality or their thefts. Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts. and they did not repent of their murders, nor of their witchcraft, nor of their sexual immorality, nor of their thefts.
