Berean Study Bible In My Father’s House Are Many RoomsOn the night before His crucifixion, Jesus prepared the disciples for His departure, betrayal, and death. Their fears were real, but His coming death would not defeat God’s purpose. Jhn 16:33 I have told you these things so that in Me… You believe in God; The disciples trusted the God of Israel, who had revealed Himself through the Scriptures and governed Israel’s history. That faith provided the foundation for what Jesus was about to reveal. Mrk 11:22 “Have faith in God,” Jesus said to them. believe in Me as well. Jesus calls them to place the same trust in Him. His death, resurrection, and return to the Father would show that He is the Messiah and the Son of God, fully able to save and bring His people into the Father’s presence. Act 16:31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus”… In My Father’s house Heaven is presented as the dwelling of God the Father, not merely a distant realm but the home of His children. Jhn 2:16 To those selling doves He said, “Get these out of here!… are many rooms. There is sufficient and permanent dwelling place for all who belong to Christ. 2Co 5:1 For we know that if the earthly tent we live in… If it were not so, Jesus assures the disciples that His promise rests on truth. Num 23:19 God is not a man, that He should lie, or a son of man,… would I have told you He speaks as the faithful Son who reveals the Father’s will. Jhn 8:45-46 But because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me!… that I am going there His departure would come through His death, resurrection, and ascension. Luk 24:51 While He was blessing them, He left them… to prepare a place for you? By His saving work, Jesus secures the future home of believers in the presence of God. Mat 25:34 Then the King will say to those on His right,… And if I go and prepare a place for you, Jesus would soon depart through His death, resurrection, and ascension to the Father. His departure was not abandonment but preparation for the future dwelling of His people in the Father’s house. The imagery recalls a bridegroom preparing a home before receiving his bride, pointing to Christ’s covenant relationship with His Church. Mat 25:34 Then the King will say to those on His right,… I will come back Jesus promises a personal, visible return at the end of the age. His return will complete God’s plan of redemption and gather His people to Himself. Act 1:11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here”… and welcome you into My presence, He Himself will receive believers, bringing them into direct and lasting fellowship with Him. Salvation reaches its fullness in being welcomed by Christ into the Father’s presence. 2Co 4:14 knowing that the One who raised the Lord Jesus… so that you also may be where I am. The purpose of Christ’s return is that His people may dwell with Him forever. Heaven is not merely a destination but eternal communion with the risen Lord. Jhn 17:24 Father, I want those You have given Me to be with Me… You know the way Jesus had taught the disciples that access to the Father comes through Him. Though they did not yet grasp the full meaning of His approaching death and resurrection, they had received enough revelation to understand that He was leading them to God. Psa 25:4-5 Show me Your ways, O LORD; teach me Your paths.… to the place The destination is the Father’s house, where Jesus would prepare a dwelling for His people. It is a real future home with God, not merely a spiritual ideal or impersonal afterlife. Heb 11:10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations… where I am going.” Jesus was soon to depart through His death, resurrection, and ascension. His departure would accomplish salvation and secure the disciples’ future presence with Him. Jhn 13:33 Little children, I am with you only a little while longer.…
The Way, the Truth, and the LifeThomas, one of the Twelve and also called Didymus, addresses Jesus with reverence and recognizes His authority. Jhn 20:28 Thomas replied, “My Lord and my God!” “we do not know where You are going, The disciples still struggled to understand that Jesus would soon depart through His death, resurrection, and ascension to the Father. Jhn 13:36 “Lord, where are You going?” Simon Peter asked.… so how can we know the way?” Thomas seeks clear direction, unaware that Jesus Himself is the only way—the path of life and conduct—to the Father and the source of eternal life. Isa 30:21 And whether you turn to the right or to the left,… Jesus answered, Speaking to Thomas during the Last Supper, Jesus gives a direct and decisive answer as He prepares the disciples for His death, resurrection, and return to the Father. Mat 22:29 Jesus answered, “You are mistaken because you do not know… “I am the way Jesus Himself is the only access to God. He does not merely show the way; through His person and saving work, He brings sinners to the Father. Heb 10:19-20 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter… and the truth Jesus perfectly reveals God’s character and will. As the incarnate Son, He is wholly trustworthy and exposes every false claim about God, sin, and salvation. Jhn 1:14 The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.… and the life. He is the source of physical life and eternal life, possessing authority over death and granting resurrection life to those who believe in Him. Jhn 11:25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life.”… No one comes to the Father No person can approach God on the basis of personal merit, religious ceremony, or another human mediator. Sin separates humanity from God and requires reconciliation. Eph 2:18 For through Him we both have access to the Father… except through Me. Jesus alone provides that reconciliation through His sacrificial death and resurrection. Faith in Him is the only means by which anyone may be received by the Father. Act 4:12 Salvation exists in no one else, for there is no other… If you had known Me, “If you had known Me” means that the disciples would have understood more fully who Jesus is and why He came. His words, works, and obedience to the Father reveal His divine identity and mission. Jhn 8:19 “You do not know Me or My Father,” Jesus answered.… you would know My Father as well. Jesus is distinct from the Father, yet perfectly one with Him in nature and purpose. No one can truly know the Father apart from the Son, who makes Him known. Jhn 12:45 And whoever sees Me sees the One who sent Me. From now on you do know Him Jesus’ teaching and presence had already revealed the Father to them, though they would understand this more clearly after His death, resurrection, and the coming of the Holy Spirit. Jhn 17:3 Now this is eternal life, that they may know You… and have seen Him.” In seeing Jesus, they had seen the visible revelation of the invisible God. The Son came in flesh to make the Father known while remaining fully God. Jhn 6:46 not that anyone has seen the Father except the One… Philip said to Him, Philip had followed Jesus from the beginning of His ministry and had witnessed His works and heard His teaching. Yet, like the other disciples, he was still growing in his understanding of Jesus’ full identity and mission. Jhn 6:8 One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother,… “Lord, show us the Father, Philip asked for a direct manifestation of God such as Moses had desired when he asked to see God’s glory. He did not yet grasp that the Father had already been revealed in the Son, who perfectly made known the invisible God through His words, works, character, and presence. Jhn 12:45 And whoever sees Me sees the One who sent Me. and that will be enough for us.” Philip believed that such a visible revelation would settle the disciples’ uncertainty. His request reveals their continued desire for outward confirmation, even after years with Jesus, and prepares for Jesus’ declaration that to know and see Him is to know and see the Father. 2Co 12:9 But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you… Jesus replied, Jesus answered Philip during the Last Supper, continuing His instruction to the disciples before His arrest and crucifixion. Luk 10:22 All things have been entrusted to Me by My Father… “Philip, I have been with you all this time, Philip had followed Jesus throughout His public ministry, witnessing His works, hearing His teaching, and sharing in the disciples’ daily fellowship with Him. Jhn 15:27 And you also must testify, because you have been with Me… and still you do not know Me? Philip’s request showed that he had not yet fully grasped who Jesus is. Jhn 8:19 “You do not know Me or My Father,” Jesus answered.… Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. Jesus is the full and visible revelation of the Father, sharing the same divine nature while remaining personally distinct from Him. Jhn 12:45 And whoever sees Me sees the One who sent Me. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Philip was asking for what had already been given in Jesus’ presence, words, works, and character. Exo 33:18-23 Then Moses said, “Please show me Your glory.”… Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? Jesus reveals the perfect unity He shares with the Father. He is distinct from the Father, yet fully divine and inseparably united with Him in nature, purpose, and action. His question exposes the disciples’ incomplete understanding after witnessing His teaching, character, and works. Jhn 10:38 But if I am doing them, even though you do not believe Me,… The words I say to you, I do not speak on My own. Jesus speaks with the Father’s authority. His teaching is not merely that of a human messenger; He makes known the will and truth of God because He came from the Father and acts in complete obedience to Him. Jhn 12:49 I have not spoken on My own, but the Father who sent Me… Instead, it is the Father dwelling in Me, performing His works. The Father’s presence in the Son is displayed through Jesus’ miracles, mercy, and authority. These works confirm that Jesus was sent by the Father and that God was acting through Him to reveal Himself and accomplish salvation. Jhn 5:19 So Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I tell you, the Son…… Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me— Jesus declares His complete unity with the Father. He is not merely God’s representative but shares the Father’s divine nature, authority, and purpose. His words reveal the personal distinction of Father and Son while affirming that both are fully one God. Jhn 10:38 But if I am doing them, even though you do not believe Me,… or at least believe on account of the works themselves. If the disciples struggle to grasp His declaration, Jesus points to His works as undeniable evidence. His miracles displayed divine power over sickness, nature, demons, and death, confirming that the Father was working through Him and that He had come from God. Jhn 10:25 “I already told you,” Jesus replied “but you did not believe… Truly, truly, I tell you, Jesus solemnly confirms the certainty and importance of the promise that follows. Jhn 5:19 So Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I tell you, the Son…… whoever believes in Me Faith in Him is personal trust in Jesus as the Messiah and Son of God, not mere agreement with His claims. Jhn 12:44-46 Then Jesus cried out, “Whoever believes in Me… will also do the works that I am doing. His works revealed the Father through mercy, healing, truth, and signs of His authority. Those who belong to Him continue His mission in the power He provides. Act 10:38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit… He will do even greater things than these, These greater works concern the wider reach of Christ’s ministry through His followers as the gospel goes beyond Israel and many are brought to faith. Jhn 5:20 The Father loves the Son and shows Him all He does.… because I am going to the Father. His death, resurrection, and ascension complete His earthly mission and prepare the way for the Holy Spirit to empower His people while He reigns and intercedes at the Father’s right hand. Jhn 20:17 “Do not cling to Me,” Jesus said, “for I have not yet…”… And I will do whatever you ask in My name, Jesus promises to act for His disciples as they pray under His authority and in harmony with His purpose. To ask in His name is to approach the Father through the Son, seeking what accords with Christ’s character, teaching, and mission. Such prayer reflects the believer’s union with Christ and participation in the work He continues through His people. Jhn 16:23-24 In that day you will no longer ask Me anything.… so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. Answered prayer ultimately displays the Father’s greatness through the saving work and authority of Jesus. The Son reveals the Father perfectly, and His works—both during His earthly ministry and through His disciples—make known God’s power, faithfulness, and redemptive purpose. Jhn 13:31-32 When Judas had gone out, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man is glorified,… If you ask Me for anything Jesus spoke these words in the Upper Room as He prepared the disciples for His departure. Their access to Him would not end with His death, resurrection, and ascension. Through prayer, they would continue to bring their needs before Him in dependence on His presence and work. Jhn 16:23-24 In that day you will no longer ask Me anything.… in My name, Requests made in Jesus’ name are offered on the basis of who He is and in keeping with His will, character, and mission. He alone provides believers access to the Father and continues as their mediator. Jhn 15:16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you. And I appointed you… I will do it. Jesus personally promises to act in response to such prayer. His words affirm His authority, faithfulness, and divine power. The disciples could face the future with confidence that the risen Christ would remain actively involved in accomplishing His purposes through them. Jhn 15:7 If you remain in Me and My words remain in you,…
Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit“If you love Me” teaches that love for Jesus is demonstrated through devoted allegiance to Him as Lord. As He prepared His disciples for His departure, Jesus made clear that genuine faith is rooted in trust, submission, and love. Deu 30:16 For I am commanding you today to love the LORD your God,… you will keep Obedience flows from love for Jesus. “You will keep” means more than outward rule-keeping; it is the willing guarding and practice of all that He taught. Jhn 15:10 If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love… My commandments. These include His call to love one another, live in holiness, forgive, serve, and remain faithful to God. His commands reveal His character and direct His people to live under His authority. 1Jn 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments.… And I will ask the Father, Jesus spoke as the Son who enjoyed perfect fellowship with the Father and would continue to act for His disciples after His departure. His request showed that His death, resurrection, and return to the Father would not end His care for those who believed in Him. Jhn 17:20 I am not asking on behalf of them alone,… and He will give you another Advocate The Father would send the Holy Spirit, the Advocate (Greek Parakletos, meaning helper, comforter, or counselor), to remain with the disciples in Jesus’ place. The Spirit would teach, guide, strengthen, and bear witness to Christ, continuing the work Jesus had begun among them. Jhn 15:26 When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you… to be with you forever— Unlike Jesus’ visible earthly ministry, which was limited to a particular time and place, the Spirit would permanently dwell with God’s people. His presence marked the beginning of the promised new covenant, in which God would live among His people and transform them from within. Eph 1:13-14 And in Him, having heard and believed the word of truth… the Spirit of truth. The Holy Spirit reveals God’s truth and bears witness to Jesus, who is the truth and the source of eternal life. Jhn 15:26 When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you… The world cannot receive Him, The world, organized in opposition to God, remains bound by unbelief and cannot welcome the Spirit. 1Co 2:14 The natural man does not accept the things that… because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. Spiritual blindness prevents the world from recognizing the Spirit’s presence and work. 2Co 4:4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers,… But you do know Him, Jesus’ disciples know the Spirit through their faith in Christ and His revelation of the Father. 1Jn 2:20 You, however, have an anointing from the Holy One,… for He abides with you The Spirit was already present among them through Jesus’ ministry, guiding and strengthening them. Jhn 15:4 Remain in Me, and I will remain in you… and will be in you. After Jesus’ departure, the Spirit would permanently indwell believers, empowering them for service and marking them as God’s people. 1Co 6:19 Do you not know that your body is a temple… I will not leave you as orphans; Jesus prepares the disciples for His departure without leaving them abandoned or unprotected. Though His death would soon scatter and grieve them, He would provide the Holy Spirit to dwell with them and guide them. Their relationship with Him would not end at the cross. Heb 13:5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content… I will come to you. Jesus would return to the disciples after His resurrection, appearing to them in bodily form and confirming His victory over death. His presence would also continue through the Holy Spirit, and His promise ultimately anticipates His visible return in glory. Jhn 20:19 It was the first day of the week, and that very evening,… In a little while the world will see Me no more, Jesus spoke on the eve of His crucifixion. After His death and burial, the unbelieving world would no longer behold Him as it had during His public ministry. His resurrection appearances were not given to the crowds or to His opponents, but to those who had followed Him. Jhn 16:16 In a little while you will see Me no more,… but you will see Me. The disciples would see Jesus alive after His resurrection. Though grief and fear would soon overtake them, His appearances would confirm that He had conquered death and would prepare them for their future witness. Jhn 20:19-20 It was the first day of the week, and that very evening,… Because I live, you also will live. Jesus’ resurrection guarantees the life of all who belong to Him. His followers receive spiritual life through Him now and will share in bodily resurrection when He returns. 1Co 15:20-22 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead… On that day After His resurrection and the coming of the Holy Spirit, the disciples would understand more fully what Jesus had taught them. Pentecost marked the beginning of this new clarity and power for their witness. Jhn 20:19 It was the first day of the week, and that very evening,… you will know Their understanding would come through the Spirit’s work in them, giving them settled assurance of the truth concerning Christ and their place in Him. Jhn 13:7 “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later…”… that I am in My Father, Jesus shares the Father’s divine nature and perfect unity. His words, works, death, and resurrection reveal that He came from the Father and acts in complete harmony with Him. Jhn 10:38 But if I am doing them, even though you do not believe Me,… and you are in Me, Those who believe in Christ are joined to Him by faith. They belong to Him, share in the benefits of His saving work, and receive life through their union with Him. 1Co 1:30 It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus… and I am in you. Christ dwells in believers through the Holy Spirit. His abiding presence sustains, directs, and transforms them as they live in obedience to Him. 2Co 13:5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith;… Whoever has My commandments and keeps them Jesus calls His disciples to receive His teaching and obey it. In Israel, covenant faithfulness was shown by obedience to God’s commands; Jesus places His own commands at the center of faithful discipleship. 1Jn 2:3 By this we can be sure that we have come to know Him… is the one who loves Me. Love for Christ is demonstrated in willing obedience, not merely in profession or emotion. Those who belong to Him submit to His authority. 1Jn 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments.… The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, Obedience marks those who live in fellowship with the Father. The Father delights in those who honor His Son and follow Him. Jhn 16:27 For the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me.… and I will love him Christ’s love is personal, steadfast, and saving. He remains present with His people and cares for them as His own. Jhn 15:9 As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you.… and reveal Myself to him.” Jesus promises a fuller knowledge of Himself to obedient believers. After His resurrection, He would make Himself known through the work of the Holy Spirit, drawing His disciples into deeper fellowship with Him. Jhn 21:1 Later, by the Sea of Tiberias, Jesus revealed Himself… Judas (not Iscariot) asked Him, Judas, commonly identified with Thaddaeus, was one of the Twelve and is carefully distinguished from Judas Iscariot. He sought to understand why Jesus would make Himself known to the disciples in a way not seen by others. Luk 6:16 Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot… “Lord, why are You going to reveal Yourself to us He recognized Jesus’ authority and anticipated a personal disclosure of Christ to those who loved and obeyed Him. Jhn 20:19-29 It was the first day of the week, and that very evening,… and not to the world?” The world, marked by unbelief and opposition to God, would not receive Christ’s revelation apart from faith. Jesus would reveal Himself to His disciples after His resurrection and send them to proclaim Him throughout the world. Jhn 1:10-11 He was in the world, and though the world… Jesus replied, Jesus continued His final instructions to the disciples during the Last Supper, preparing them for His death, resurrection, ascension, and the coming ministry of the Holy Spirit. Jhn 12:49-50 I have not spoken on My own, but the Father who sent Me… “If anyone loves Me, Love for Christ is personal allegiance to Him as Lord, not merely affection or religious profession. 1Co 16:22 If anyone does not love the Lord, let him be under a curse… he will keep My word. Those who truly love Jesus receive and obey His teaching. Faithful obedience reveals devotion to Christ and submission to His authority. 1Jn 2:5 But if anyone keeps His word, the love of God… My Father will love him, The believer who loves the Son enjoys the Father’s favor, for the Father and Son are perfectly united in purpose and nature. Jhn 16:27 For the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me.… and We will come to him The Father and the Son draw near to the obedient believer through the indwelling presence and work of the Holy Spirit. Rev 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock… and make Our home with him. God no longer dwells among His people only through the tabernacle or temple. Through Christ, He establishes an abiding and intimate presence within those who belong to Him. Eph 3:17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts… Whoever does not love Me Love for Christ is shown by allegiance to Him as Lord, not by sentiment alone. His disciples are identified by their devotion to His person and their submission to His authority. 1Co 16:22 If anyone does not love the Lord, let him be under a curse… does not keep My words. Refusal to obey Christ reveals a lack of genuine love for Him. Jesus’ teaching calls for a life built upon and governed by what He has commanded. 1Jn 2:3-5 By this we can be sure that we have come to know Him… The word that you hear is not My own, Jesus speaks in complete unity with the Father. His teaching carries divine authority because He does not act independently or deliver a merely human message. Jhn 7:16 “My teaching is not My own,” Jesus replied.… but it is from the Father who sent Me. The Father sent the Son into the world to reveal His will and accomplish salvation. Rejecting Jesus’ words is therefore rejection of the Father who gave them. Jhn 17:8 For I have given them the words You gave Me,… All this I have spoken to you Jesus gathers His instruction to the disciples, including His teaching on love, obedience, service, faith, and the Father’s work through Him. In the Upper Room, He prepares them for the events soon to follow and for their continued mission after His departure. Jhn 15:11 I have told you these things so that My joy may be in you… while I am still with you. His earthly ministry is nearing its completion through His death, resurrection, and ascension. Though His physical presence will cease, He will not leave the disciples without divine guidance; the Holy Spirit will continue the work of teaching and reminding them of all He has said. Jhn 13:33 Little children, I am with you only a little while longer.… But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, Jesus identifies the Holy Spirit as the divine Helper, the Advocate (Parakletos), one called alongside to help, comfort, or intercede, who would sustain the disciples after His departure. His presence would assure them that they were not abandoned but remained under God’s care and direction. Jhn 16:7 But I tell you the truth, it is for your benefit… whom the Father will send in My name, The Father would send the Spirit with the authority of the Son and in fulfillment of Christ’s mission. The Spirit’s work would continue what Jesus had begun among His followers. Luk 24:49 And behold, I am sending the promise of My Father upon you.… will teach you all things The disciples would receive understanding of God’s truth and of the significance of Jesus’ words, works, death, and resurrection. The Spirit would equip them for their apostolic witness and for the formation of the church. 1Jn 2:27 And as for you, the anointing you received from Him… and will remind you of everything I have told you. The Spirit would preserve the Lord’s teaching in the minds of the apostles, enabling them to proclaim it faithfully. Their testimony became the foundation of the New Testament witness to Jesus Christ. Jhn 16:4 But I have told you these things, so that when their hour…
Peace I Leave with YouAs Jesus prepared His disciples for His departure, He left them with the settled well-being that comes from reconciliation with God. His peace would remain with them amid the sorrow and uncertainty surrounding His death. Jhn 20:19 It was the first day of the week, and that very evening,… My peace I give to you. The peace Jesus gives rests on His finished work, His presence with His people, and the certainty of eternal life. It is not merely relief from conflict but confidence in God’s care and purpose. Jhn 16:33 I have told you these things so that in Me… I do not give to you as the world gives. Worldly peace depends on favorable circumstances, human strength, or temporary agreements. Christ’s peace is secure because it comes from Him and is not altered by changing events. Jer 6:14 They dress the wound of My people with very little care,… Do not let your hearts be troubled; The disciples would soon face the arrest, crucifixion, and apparent loss of their Master. Jesus called them to resist inward distress by trusting what He had told them about His departure and return. Psa 94:19 When anxiety overwhelms me, Your consolation… do not be afraid. Though hardship lay ahead, they were not abandoned. Jesus’ authority over death and His continuing care gave them reason to face the future without fear. Isa 41:10 Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid… You heard Me say, ‘I am going away, and I am coming back to you.’ On the night before His crucifixion, Jesus reminded the disciples that His departure would not end His relationship with them. He would die, rise from the grave, appear to them again, and later ascend to the Father. His words also look beyond those events to His promised return in glory. Jhn 16:16 In a little while you will see Me no more,… If you loved Me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, The disciples grieved because they expected to lose Him, yet His return to the Father marked the completion of His saving work. His death, resurrection, and ascension would bring Him back to the glory He had before His incarnation, where He would represent His people before the Father. Jhn 16:28 I came from the Father and entered the world.… because the Father is greater than I. Jesus spoke from the position He had willingly taken in becoming man and carrying out the Father’s will. During His earthly ministry, He lived in humble obedience and accepted the limitations of a servant. His words do not deny His divine nature, but point to the order of His mission as the Son returned to the Father. Jhn 5:19 So Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I tell you, the Son…… And now I have told you before it happens, Jesus prepares the disciples for the events soon to unfold: His arrest, crucifixion, resurrection, and return to the Father. Though these events would initially bring confusion and fear, they would later confirm that His death was neither accidental nor outside God’s purpose. Mat 24:25 See, I have told you in advance. so that when it does happen, After the resurrection, the disciples would remember His words and understand that He had spoken with full knowledge of what awaited Him. The fulfillment of His warning would steady them amid the upheaval of His departure. Jhn 13:19 I am telling you now before it happens… you will believe. Their faith would rest on the reality that Jesus had foreseen and governed the course of these events. This conviction would sustain their witness that He is the promised Messiah and the Son of God. Jhn 2:22 He was raised from the dead, His disciples remembered… I will not speak with you much longer, Jesus knows that His arrest and crucifixion are near. During the Last Supper, He gives His disciples final instruction and prepares them for His departure. Jhn 16:12 I still have much to tell you, but you cannot yet… for the prince of this world is coming, Satan is working through Judas, the Jewish leaders, and the Roman authorities as the events of the crucifixion unfold. His opposition is real, but it remains under God’s sovereign purpose. Jhn 12:31 Now judgment is upon this world; now the prince… and he has no claim on Me. Jesus is without sin and cannot be condemned by Satan. He goes to the cross willingly in obedience to the Father, not because evil has gained power over Him. Jhn 8:46 Which of you can prove Me guilty of sin?… But I do exactly what the Father has commanded Me, Jesus willingly carries out the Father’s will in every part of His mission, including His approaching suffering and death. His obedience reveals the perfect unity of the Father and the Son and confirms that the cross is not an accident but the fulfillment of God’s redemptive purpose. Jhn 12:49-50 I have not spoken on My own, but the Father who sent Me… so that the world may know that I love the Father. Jesus’ obedience openly demonstrates His love for the Father. The world would see that His death came not from defeat or compulsion, but from His steadfast commitment to accomplish the Father’s will. Jhn 17:23 I in them and You in Me—that they may be perfectly united,… Get up! Let us go on from here. Jesus ends His instruction in the upper room and leads the disciples toward the events of His arrest. Though fully aware of what awaited Him, He moves forward willingly to meet the hour appointed for His sacrifice. Mat 26:46 Rise, let us go! See, My betrayer is approaching!” This is a draft of the Berean Study Bible. Please send all comments and recommendations to bereanstudybible@aol.com. Bible Hub |
