1[As] a fellow elder, a witness of Christ’s sufferings, and a partaker of the glory to be revealed, I appeal to [the] elders among you: 1Πρεσβυτέρους [τοὺς] ἐν ὑμῖν παρακαλῶ ὁ συμπρεσβύτερος καὶ μάρτυς τῶν τοῦ Χριστοῦ παθημάτων ὁ καὶ τῆς μελλούσης ἀποκαλύπτεσθαι δόξης κοινωνός
2Be shepherds of God’s flock [that is] among you, watching over them not out of compulsion, but because it is God’s will; not out of greed, but out of eagerness; 2ποιμάνατε τὸ ἐν ὑμῖν ποίμνιον τοῦ Θεοῦ ‹ἐπισκοποῦντες› μὴ ἀναγκαστῶς ἀλλὰ ἑκουσίως κατὰ Θεόν μηδὲ αἰσχροκερδῶς ἀλλὰ προθύμως
3not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. 3μηδ’ ὡς κατακυριεύοντες τῶν κλήρων ἀλλὰ τύποι γινόμενοι τοῦ ποιμνίου
4And [when] the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away. 4καὶ φανερωθέντος τοῦ Ἀρχιποίμενος κομιεῖσθε τὸν ἀμαράντινον τῆς δόξης στέφανον
5Young men, in the same way, submit yourselves to [your] elders. And all [of you], clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes [the] proud, but gives grace to [the] humble.” 5Ὁμοίως νεώτεροι ὑποτάγητε πρεσβυτέροις πάντες δὲ ἀλλήλοις τὴν ταπεινοφροσύνην ἐγκομβώσασθε ὅτι Ὁ Θεὸς ὑπερηφάνοις ἀντιτάσσεται ταπεινοῖς δὲ δίδωσιν χάριν
6Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, so that in [due] time He may exalt you. 6Ταπεινώθητε οὖν ὑπὸ τὴν κραταιὰν χεῖρα τοῦ Θεοῦ ἵνα ὑμᾶς ὑψώσῃ ἐν καιρῷ
7Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. 7πᾶσαν τὴν μέριμναν ὑμῶν ἐπιρίψαντες ἐπ’ αὐτόν ὅτι αὐτῷ μέλει περὶ ὑμῶν
8Be sober-minded [and] alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking [someone] to devour. 8Νήψατε γρηγορήσατε ὁ ἀντίδικος ὑμῶν διάβολος ὡς λέων ὠρυόμενος περιπατεῖ ζητῶν τινα καταπιεῖν
9Resist [him], [standing] firm in [your] faith [and] in the knowledge that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering. 9ᾧ ἀντίστητε στερεοὶ τῇ πίστει εἰδότες τὰ αὐτὰ τῶν παθημάτων τῇ ἐν τῷ κόσμῳ ὑμῶν ἀδελφότητι ἐπιτελεῖσθαι
10And [after you] have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself restore [you], secure [you], strengthen [you], [and] establish [you]. 10Ὁ δὲ Θεὸς πάσης χάριτος ὁ καλέσας ὑμᾶς εἰς τὴν αἰώνιον αὐτοῦ δόξαν ἐν Χριστῷ [Ἰησοῦ] ὀλίγον παθόντας αὐτὸς καταρτίσει στηρίξει σθενώσει θεμελιώσει
11To Him [be] the power forever [and] ever. Amen. 11αὐτῷ τὸ κράτος εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων ἀμήν
12Through Silvanus, [whom] I regard as a faithful brother, I have written to you briefly, encouraging [you] and testifying [that] this is [the] true grace of God. Stand firm in [it]. 12Διὰ Σιλουανοῦ ὑμῖν τοῦ πιστοῦ ἀδελφοῦ ὡς λογίζομαι δι’ ὀλίγων ἔγραψα παρακαλῶν καὶ ἐπιμαρτυρῶν ταύτην εἶναι ἀληθῆ χάριν τοῦ Θεοῦ εἰς ἣν στῆτε
13[The church] in Babylon, chosen together with [you], sends you greetings, [as does] my son Mark. 13Ἀσπάζεται ὑμᾶς ἡ ἐν Βαβυλῶνι συνεκλεκτὴ καὶ Μάρκος ὁ υἱός μου
14Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to all of you who [are] in Christ. 14Ἀσπάσασθε ἀλλήλους ἐν φιλήματι ἀγάπης Εἰρήνη ὑμῖν πᾶσιν τοῖς ἐν Χριστῷ ⧼Ἀμήν⧽
