1Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by [the] will of God, according to [the] promise of life in Christ Jesus, 1Παῦλος ἀπόστολος Χριστοῦ Ἰησοῦ διὰ θελήματος Θεοῦ κατ’ ἐπαγγελίαν ζωῆς τῆς ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ
2To Timothy, [my] beloved child: Grace, mercy, [and] peace from God [the] Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. 2Τιμοθέῳ ἀγαπητῷ τέκνῳ Χάρις ἔλεος εἰρήνη ἀπὸ Θεοῦ Πατρὸς καὶ Χριστοῦ Ἰησοῦ τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν
3I thank God, whom I serve with a clear conscience as did [my] forefathers, as I constantly remember you night and day in my prayers. 3Χάριν ἔχω τῷ Θεῷ ᾧ λατρεύω ἀπὸ προγόνων ἐν καθαρᾷ συνειδήσει ὡς ἀδιάλειπτον ἔχω τὴν περὶ σοῦ μνείαν ἐν ταῖς δεήσεσίν μου νυκτὸς καὶ ἡμέρας
4Recalling your tears, I long to see you so that I may be filled with joy. 4ἐπιποθῶν σε ἰδεῖν μεμνημένος σου τῶν δακρύων ἵνα χαρᾶς πληρωθῶ
5I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am convinced [is] in you as well. 5ὑπόμνησιν λαβὼν τῆς ἐν σοὶ ἀνυποκρίτου πίστεως ἥτις ἐνῴκησεν πρῶτον ἐν τῇ μάμμῃ σου Λωΐδι καὶ τῇ μητρί σου Εὐνίκῃ πέπεισμαι δὲ ὅτι καὶ ἐν σοί
6For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 6Δι’ ἣν αἰτίαν ἀναμιμνῄσκω σε ἀναζωπυρεῖν τὸ χάρισμα τοῦ Θεοῦ ὅ ἐστιν ἐν σοὶ διὰ τῆς ἐπιθέσεως τῶν χειρῶν μου
7For God {has} not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power, love, and self-control. 7οὐ γὰρ ἔδωκεν ἡμῖν ὁ Θεὸς πνεῦμα δειλίας ἀλλὰ δυνάμεως καὶ ἀγάπης καὶ σωφρονισμοῦ
8So do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, [or] of me, His prisoner. Instead, join me in suffering for the gospel by [the] power of God. 8Μὴ οὖν ἐπαισχυνθῇς τὸ μαρτύριον τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν μηδὲ ἐμὲ τὸν δέσμιον αὐτοῦ ἀλλὰ συνκακοπάθησον τῷ εὐαγγελίῳ κατὰ δύναμιν Θεοῦ
9[He] has saved us and called [us] with a holy calling, not because of our [own] works, but by His own purpose and [by the] grace He granted us in Christ Jesus before time eternal. 9τοῦ σώσαντος ἡμᾶς καὶ καλέσαντος κλήσει ἁγίᾳ οὐ κατὰ τὰ ἔργα ἡμῶν ἀλλὰ κατὰ ἰδίαν πρόθεσιν καὶ χάριν τὴν δοθεῖσαν ἡμῖν ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ πρὸ χρόνων αἰωνίων
10And now He has revealed [this grace] through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, [who] has abolished death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the gospel, 10φανερωθεῖσαν δὲ νῦν διὰ τῆς ἐπιφανείας τοῦ Σωτῆρος ἡμῶν Χριστοῦ Ἰησοῦ καταργήσαντος μὲν τὸν θάνατον φωτίσαντος δὲ ζωὴν καὶ ἀφθαρσίαν διὰ τοῦ εὐαγγελίου
11to which I was appointed a preacher, apostle, and teacher. 11εἰς ὃ ἐτέθην ἐγὼ κήρυξ καὶ ἀπόστολος καὶ διδάσκαλος
12For this reason, even [though] I suffer [as I do], I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted [to Him] for that day. 12Δι’ ἣν αἰτίαν καὶ ταῦτα πάσχω ἀλλ’ οὐκ ἐπαισχύνομαι οἶδα γὰρ ᾧ πεπίστευκα καὶ πέπεισμαι ὅτι δυνατός ἐστιν τὴν παραθήκην μου φυλάξαι εἰς ἐκείνην τὴν ἡμέραν
13Hold on [to the] pattern of sound teaching you have heard from me, with [the] faith and love that [are] in Christ Jesus. 13Ὑποτύπωσιν ἔχε ὑγιαινόντων λόγων ὧν παρ’ ἐμοῦ ἤκουσας ἐν πίστει καὶ ἀγάπῃ τῇ ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ
14Guard the good treasure entrusted [to you], with the help of [the] Holy Spirit who dwells in us. 14τὴν καλὴν παραθήκην φύλαξον διὰ Πνεύματος Ἁγίου τοῦ ἐνοικοῦντος ἐν ἡμῖν
15You know that everyone in [the Province of] Asia has deserted me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes. 15Οἶδας τοῦτο ὅτι ἀπεστράφησάν με πάντες οἱ ἐν τῇ Ἀσίᾳ ὧν ἐστιν Φύγελος καὶ Ἑρμογένης
16{May} the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, because he has often refreshed me and was unashamed of my chains. 16Δῴη ἔλεος ὁ Κύριος τῷ Ὀνησιφόρου οἴκῳ ὅτι πολλάκις με ἀνέψυξεν καὶ τὴν ἅλυσίν μου οὐκ ἐπαισχύνθη
17Indeed, when he arrived in Rome, he searched diligently [until] he found me. 17ἀλλὰ γενόμενος ἐν Ῥώμῃ σπουδαίως ἐζήτησέν με καὶ εὗρεν
18{May} the Lord grant [Onesiphorus] [His] mercy on that day. You know very well how much he ministered [to me] in Ephesus. 18Δῴη αὐτῷ ὁ Κύριος εὑρεῖν ἔλεος παρὰ Κυρίου ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ καὶ ὅσα ἐν Ἐφέσῳ διηκόνησεν βέλτιον σὺ γινώσκεις
