Evil in the Last Days

1  Τοῦτο (This) δὲ (however) γίνωσκε (know), ὅτι (that) ἐν (in) ἐσχάταις (the last) ἡμέραις (days) ἐνστήσονται (will be present) καιροὶ (times) χαλεποί (difficult)· 2  ἔσονται (Will be) γὰρ (for) οἱ (-) ἄνθρωποι (men) φίλαυτοι (lovers of self), φιλάργυροι (lovers of money), ἀλαζόνες (boasters), ὑπερήφανοι (proud), βλάσφημοι (verbally abusive), γονεῦσιν (to parents) ἀπειθεῖς (disobedient), ἀχάριστοι (ungrateful), ἀνόσιοι (unholy), 3  ἄστοργοι (unloving), ἄσπονδοι (unforgiving), διάβολοι (slanderous), ἀκρατεῖς (without control), ἀνήμεροι (savage), ἀφιλάγαθοι (without love of good), 4  προδόται (betrayers), προπετεῖς (reckless), τετυφωμένοι (having been puffed up), φιλήδονοι (lovers of pleasure) μᾶλλον (rather) ἢ (than) φιλόθεοι (lovers of God), 5  ἔχοντες (having) μόρφωσιν (a form) εὐσεβείας (of godliness) τὴν (-) δὲ (but) δύναμιν (the power) αὐτῆς (of it) ἠρνημένοι (having denied)· καὶ (And) τούτους (these) ἀποτρέπου (turn away from).

6  Ἐκ (Out of) τούτων (these) γάρ (for) εἰσιν (are) οἱ (those) ἐνδύνοντες (slipping) εἰς (into) τὰς (-) οἰκίας (households) καὶ (and) αἰχμαλωτίζοντες (taking captive) γυναικάρια (weak women) σεσωρευμένα (heaped up) ἁμαρτίαις (with sins), ἀγόμενα (being led) ἐπιθυμίαις (by passions) ποικίλαις (various), 7  πάντοτε (always) μανθάνοντα (learning) καὶ (and) μηδέποτε (never) εἰς (to) ἐπίγνωσιν (a knowledge) ἀληθείας (of the truth) ἐλθεῖν (to come) δυνάμενα (being able).

8  ὃν (By which) τρόπον (way) δὲ (now) Ἰάννης (Jannes) καὶ (and) Ἰαμβρῆς (Jambres) ἀντέστησαν (opposed) Μωϋσεῖ (Moses), οὕτως (so) καὶ (also) οὗτοι (these) ἀνθίστανται (oppose) τῇ (the) ἀληθείᾳ (truth), ἄνθρωποι (men) κατεφθαρμένοι (having been corrupted) τὸν (-) νοῦν (in mind), ἀδόκιμοι (disqualified) περὶ (concerning) τὴν (the) πίστιν (faith). 9  ἀλλ’ (But) οὐ (not) προκόψουσιν (they will advance) ἐπὶ (further) πλεῖον (much)· ἡ (-) γὰρ (for) ἄνοια (the folly) αὐτῶν (of them) ἔκδηλος (evident) ἔσται (will be) πᾶσιν (to all), ὡς (as) καὶ (also) ἡ (that) ἐκείνων (of those two) ἐγένετο (became).

10  Σὺ (You) δὲ (however) παρηκολούθησάς (have closely followed) μου (my) τῇ (-) διδασκαλίᾳ (teaching), τῇ (-) ἀγωγῇ (conduct), τῇ (-) προθέσει (purpose), τῇ (-) πίστει (faith), τῇ (-) μακροθυμίᾳ (patience), τῇ (-) ἀγάπῃ (love), τῇ (-) ὑπομονῇ (endurance), 11  τοῖς (-) διωγμοῖς (persecutions), τοῖς (-) παθήμασιν (sufferings), οἷά (such as) μοι (to me) ἐγένετο (happened) ἐν (in) Ἀντιοχείᾳ (Antioch), ἐν (in) Ἰκονίῳ (Iconium), ἐν (in) Λύστροις (Lystra)· οἵους (what manner of) διωγμοὺς (persecutions) ὑπήνεγκα (I bore up under), καὶ (And) ἐκ (out of) πάντων (all) με (me) ἐρρύσατο (delivered) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord). 12  καὶ (Also) πάντες (all) δὲ (now) οἱ (-) θέλοντες (wanting) εὐσεβῶς (godlily) ζῆν (to live) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) διωχθήσονται (will be persecuted). 13  πονηροὶ (Evil) δὲ (however) ἄνθρωποι (men) καὶ (and) γόητες (imposters) προκόψουσιν (will advance) ἐπὶ (to) τὸ (the) χεῖρον (worse), πλανῶντες (deceiving) καὶ (and) πλανώμενοι (being deceived).

14  Σὺ (You) δὲ (however) μένε (abide) ἐν (in) οἷς (the things) ἔμαθες (you learned) καὶ (and) ἐπιστώθης (were convinced of), εἰδὼς (having known) παρὰ (from) τίνων (whom) ἔμαθες (you learned), 15  καὶ (and) ὅτι (that) ἀπὸ (from) βρέφους (infancy) τὰ (the) ἱερὰ (sacred) γράμματα (writings) οἶδας (you have known), τὰ (which) δυνάμενά (are able) σε (you) σοφίσαι (to make wise) εἰς (unto) σωτηρίαν (salvation) διὰ (through) πίστεως (faith) τῆς (-) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus). 16  πᾶσα (Every) γραφὴ (Scripture is) θεόπνευστος (God-breathed) καὶ (and) ὠφέλιμος (profitable) πρὸς (for) διδασκαλίαν (teaching), πρὸς (for) ἐλεγμόν (conviction), πρὸς (for) ἐπανόρθωσιν (correction), πρὸς (and for) παιδείαν (training) τὴν (-) ἐν (in) δικαιοσύνῃ (righteousness), 17  ἵνα (so that) ἄρτιος (complete) ᾖ (may be) ὁ (the) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἄνθρωπος (man), πρὸς (toward) πᾶν (every) ἔργον (work) ἀγαθὸν (good) ἐξηρτισμένος (having been completely equipped).
