Preach the Word

1  Διαμαρτύρομαι (I earnestly testify) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) καὶ (and) Χριστοῦ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), τοῦ (the One) μέλλοντος (being about) κρίνειν (to judge) ζῶντας (the living) καὶ (and) νεκρούς (the dead), καὶ (and) τὴν (by the) ἐπιφάνειαν (appearing) αὐτοῦ (of Him) καὶ (and) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) αὐτοῦ (of Him)· 2  κήρυξον (Preach) τὸν (the) λόγον (word), ἐπίστηθι (be ready) εὐκαίρως (in season) ἀκαίρως (and out of season), ἔλεγξον (convict), ἐπιτίμησον (rebuke), παρακάλεσον (exhort), ἐν (in) πάσῃ (all) μακροθυμίᾳ (patience) καὶ (and) διδαχῇ (teaching).

3  Ἔσται (There will be) γὰρ (for) καιρὸς (a season) ὅτε (when) τῆς (-) ὑγιαινούσης (sound) διδασκαλίας (teaching) οὐκ (not) ἀνέξονται (they will bear with), ἀλλὰ (but) κατὰ (according to) τὰς (-) ἰδίας (their own) ἐπιθυμίας (passions) ἑαυτοῖς (to themselves) ἐπισωρεύσουσιν (they will heap up) διδασκάλους (teachers) κνηθόμενοι (having an itching) τὴν (-) ἀκοήν (ear), 4  καὶ (and) ἀπὸ (from) μὲν (indeed) τῆς (the) ἀληθείας (truth) τὴν (the) ἀκοὴν (hearing) ἀποστρέψουσιν (they will turn away), ἐπὶ (to) δὲ (then) τοὺς (-) μύθους (myths) ἐκτραπήσονται (they will be turned aside).

5  Σὺ (You) δὲ (however) νῆφε (be sober) ἐν (in) πᾶσιν (all things), κακοπάθησον (suffer hardships), ἔργον (the work) ποίησον (do) εὐαγγελιστοῦ (of an evangelist), τὴν (the) διακονίαν (ministry) σου (of you) πληροφόρησον (fully carry out). 6  Ἐγὼ (I) γὰρ (for) ἤδη (already) σπένδομαι (am being poured out as a drink offering), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) καιρὸς (time) τῆς (of the) ἀναλύσεώς (departure) μου (of me) ἐφέστηκεν (has come). 7  τὸν (The) καλὸν (good) ἀγῶνα (fight) ἠγώνισμαι (I have fought), τὸν (the) δρόμον (course) τετέλεκα (I have finished), τὴν (the) πίστιν (faith) τετήρηκα (I have kept)· 8  λοιπὸν (From now on) ἀπόκειταί (there is laid up) μοι (for me) ὁ (the) τῆς (-) δικαιοσύνης (of righteousness) στέφανος (crown), ὃν (which) ἀποδώσει (will award) μοι (to me) ὁ (the) κύριος (Lord) ἐν (in) ἐκείνῃ (that) τῇ (-) ἡμέρᾳ (day), ὁ (the) δίκαιος (righteous) κριτής (Judge), οὐ (not) μόνον (only) δὲ (however) ἐμοὶ (to me) ἀλλὰ (but) καὶ (also) πᾶσι (to all) τοῖς (those) ἠγαπηκόσι (loving) τὴν (the) ἐπιφάνειαν (appearing) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

9  Σπούδασον (Be diligent) ἐλθεῖν (to come) πρός (to) με (me) ταχέως (quickly)· 10  Δημᾶς (Demas) γάρ (for) με (me) ἐγκατέλιπεν (deserted) ἀγαπήσας (having loved) τὸν (the) νῦν (present) αἰῶνα (age), καὶ (and) ἐπορεύθη (he went) εἰς (to) Θεσσαλονίκην (Thessalonica), Κρήσκης (Crescens) εἰς (to) Γαλατίαν (Galatia), Τίτος (and Titus) εἰς (to) Δαλματίαν (Dalmatia)· 11  Λουκᾶς (Luke) ἐστιν (is) μόνος (alone) μετ’ (with) ἐμοῦ (me). Μᾶρκον (Mark) ἀναλαβὼν (having taken) ἄγε (bring him) μετὰ (with) σεαυτοῦ (you)· ἔστιν (he is) γάρ (for) μοι (to me) εὔχρηστος (useful) εἰς (for) διακονίαν (the ministry). 12  Τυχικὸν (Tychicus) δὲ (however) ἀπέστειλα (I sent) εἰς (to) Ἔφεσον (Ephesus). 13  τὸν (The) φαιλόνην (cloak), ὃν (that) ἀπέλιπον (I left) ἐν (in) Τρῳάδι (Troas) παρὰ (with) Κάρπῳ (Carpus), ἐρχόμενος (upon coming) φέρε (bring), καὶ (and) τὰ (the) βιβλία (books), μάλιστα (especially) τὰς (the) μεμβράνας (parchments).

14  Ἀλέξανδρος (Alexander) ὁ (the) χαλκεὺς (coppersmith) πολλά (much) μοι (to me) κακὰ (harm) ἐνεδείξατο (did)· ἀποδώσει (Will repay) αὐτῷ (to him) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) κατὰ (according to) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) αὐτοῦ (of him)· 15  ὃν (whom) καὶ (also) σὺ (you) φυλάσσου (beware of)· λίαν (exceedingly) γὰρ (for) ἀντέστη (he opposed) τοῖς (-) ἡμετέροις (our) λόγοις (word).

The Lord Remains Faithful

16  Ἐν (In) τῇ (the) πρώτῃ (first) μου (of me) ἀπολογίᾳ (defense) οὐδείς (no one) μοι (me) παρεγένετο (came beside), ἀλλὰ (but) πάντες (all) με (me) ἐγκατέλιπον (deserted)· μὴ (Not) αὐτοῖς (to them) λογισθείη (may it be reckoned)· 17  ὁ (-) δὲ (But) Κύριός (the Lord) μοι (me) παρέστη (stood by) καὶ (and) ἐνεδυνάμωσέν (empowered) με (me), ἵνα (so that) δι’ (through) ἐμοῦ (me) τὸ (the) κήρυγμα (proclamation) πληροφορηθῇ (might be fully carried out) καὶ (and) ἀκούσωσιν (might hear) πάντα (all) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (Gentiles), καὶ (And) ἐρρύσθην (I was delivered) ἐκ (out of) στόματος (the mouth) λέοντος (of the lion). 18  ῥύσεταί (Will deliver) με (me) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) ἀπὸ (from) παντὸς (every) ἔργου (work) πονηροῦ (evil) καὶ (and) σώσει (will bring me safely) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) αὐτοῦ (of Him) τὴν (-) ἐπουράνιον (heavenly)· ᾧ (to whom is) ἡ (the) δόξα (glory) εἰς (unto) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages), ἀμήν (Amen).
