Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.1Τὰ τέκνα ὑπακούετε τοῖς γονεῦσιν ὑμῶν ἐν Κυρίῳ τοῦτο γάρ ἐστιν δίκαιον
“Honor your father and mother” (which is the first commandment with a promise),2Τίμα τὸν πατέρα σου καὶ τὴν μητέρα ἥτις ἐστὶν ἐντολὴ πρώτη ἐν ἐπαγγελίᾳ
“that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life on the earth.”3Ἵνα εὖ σοι γένηται καὶ ἔσῃ μακροχρόνιος ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς
Fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath; instead, bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.4Καὶ οἱ πατέρες μὴ παροργίζετε τὰ τέκνα ὑμῶν ἀλλὰ ἐκτρέφετε αὐτὰ ἐν παιδείᾳ καὶ νουθεσίᾳ Κυρίου
Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear and sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.5Οἱ δοῦλοι ὑπακούετε τοῖς κατὰ σάρκα κυρίοις μετὰ φόβου καὶ τρόμου ἐν ἁπλότητι τῆς καρδίας ὑμῶν ὡς τῷ Χριστῷ
And do this not only to please them while they are watching, but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart.6μὴ κατ’ ὀφθαλμοδουλίαν ὡς ἀνθρωπάρεσκοι ἀλλ’ ὡς δοῦλοι Χριστοῦ ποιοῦντες τὸ θέλημα τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐκ ψυχῆς
Serve with good will, as to the Lord and not to men,7μετ’ εὐνοίας δουλεύοντες ὡς τῷ Κυρίῳ καὶ οὐκ ἀνθρώποις
because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.8εἰδότες ὅτι ἕκαστος ἐάν τι ποιήσῃ ἀγαθόν τοῦτο κομίσεται παρὰ Κυρίου εἴτε δοῦλος εἴτε ἐλεύθερος
And masters, do the same for your slaves. Give up your use of threats, because you know that He who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with Him.9Καὶ οἱ κύριοι τὰ αὐτὰ ποιεῖτε πρὸς αὐτούς ἀνιέντες τὴν ἀπειλήν εἰδότες ὅτι καὶ αὐτῶν καὶ ὑμῶν Κύριός ἐστιν ἐν οὐρανοῖς καὶ προσωπολημψία οὐκ ἔστιν παρ’ αὐτῷ
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.10Τοῦ λοιποῦ ἐνδυναμοῦσθε ἐν Κυρίῳ καὶ ἐν τῷ κράτει τῆς ἰσχύος αὐτοῦ
Put on the full armor of God, so that you can make your stand against the devil’s schemes.11ἐνδύσασθε τὴν πανοπλίαν τοῦ Θεοῦ πρὸς τὸ δύνασθαι ὑμᾶς στῆναι πρὸς τὰς μεθοδείας τοῦ διαβόλου
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this world’s darkness, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.12ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν ἡμῖν πάλη πρὸς αἷμα καὶ σάρκα ἀλλὰ πρὸς τὰς ἀρχάς πρὸς τὰς ἐξουσίας πρὸς τοὺς κοσμοκράτορας τοῦ σκότους τούτου πρὸς τὰ πνευματικὰ τῆς πονηρίας ἐν τοῖς ἐπουρανίοις
Therefore take up the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you will be able to stand your ground, and having done everything, to stand.13Διὰ τοῦτο ἀναλάβετε τὴν πανοπλίαν τοῦ Θεοῦ ἵνα δυνηθῆτε ἀντιστῆναι ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ πονηρᾷ καὶ ἅπαντα κατεργασάμενοι στῆναι
Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness arrayed,14στῆτε οὖν περιζωσάμενοι τὴν ὀσφὺν ὑμῶν ἐν ἀληθείᾳ καὶ ἐνδυσάμενοι τὸν θώρακα τῆς δικαιοσύνης
and with your feet fitted with the readiness of the gospel of peace.15καὶ ὑποδησάμενοι τοὺς πόδας ἐν ἑτοιμασίᾳ τοῦ εὐαγγελίου τῆς εἰρήνης
In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.16ἐν πᾶσιν ἀναλαβόντες τὸν θυρεὸν τῆς πίστεως ἐν δυνήσεσθε πάντα τὰ βέλη τοῦ πονηροῦ τὰ πεπυρωμένα σβέσαι
And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.17καὶ τὴν περικεφαλαίαν τοῦ σωτηρίου δέξασθε καὶ τὴν μάχαιραν τοῦ Πνεύματος ἐστιν ῥῆμα Θεοῦ
Pray in the Spirit at all times, with every kind of prayer and petition. To this end, stay alert with all perseverance in your prayers for all the saints.18διὰ πάσης προσευχῆς καὶ δεήσεως προσευχόμενοι ἐν παντὶ καιρῷ ἐν Πνεύματι καὶ εἰς αὐτὸ ἀγρυπνοῦντες ἐν πάσῃ προσκαρτερήσει καὶ δεήσει περὶ πάντων τῶν ἁγίων
Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will boldly make known the mystery of the gospel,19καὶ ὑπὲρ ἐμοῦ ἵνα μοι δοθῇ λόγος ἐν ἀνοίξει τοῦ στόματός μου ἐν παρρησίᾳ γνωρίσαι τὸ μυστήριον τοῦ εὐαγγελίου
for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it fearlessly, as I should.20ὑπὲρ οὗ πρεσβεύω ἐν ἁλύσει ἵνα ἐν αὐτῷ παρρησιάσωμαι ὡς δεῖ με λαλῆσαι
Tychicus, the beloved brother and faithful servant in the Lord, will tell you everything, so that you also may know about me and what I am doing.21Ἵνα δὲ εἰδῆτε καὶ ὑμεῖς τὰ κατ’ ἐμέ τί πράσσω πάντα γνωρίσει ὑμῖν Τυχικὸς ἀγαπητὸς ἀδελφὸς καὶ πιστὸς διάκονος ἐν Κυρίῳ
I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know about us, and that he may encourage your hearts.22ὃν ἔπεμψα πρὸς ὑμᾶς εἰς αὐτὸ τοῦτο ἵνα γνῶτε τὰ περὶ ἡμῶν καὶ παρακαλέσῃ τὰς καρδίας ὑμῶν
Peace to the brothers and love with faith from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.23Εἰρήνη τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς καὶ ἀγάπη μετὰ πίστεως ἀπὸ Θεοῦ Πατρὸς καὶ Κυρίου Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ
Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.24 χάρις μετὰ πάντων τῶν ἀγαπώντων τὸν Κύριον ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦν Χριστὸν ἐν ἀφθαρσίᾳ
