Once again Jesus entered the synagogue, and a man with a withered hand was there.1Καὶ εἰσῆλθεν πάλιν εἰς [τὴν] συναγωγήν καὶ ἦν ἐκεῖ ἄνθρωπος ἐξηραμμένην ἔχων τὴν χεῖρα
In order to accuse Jesus, they were watching to see if He would heal on the Sabbath.2καὶ παρετήρουν αὐτὸν εἰ τοῖς σάββασιν θεραπεύσει αὐτόν ἵνα κατηγορήσωσιν αὐτοῦ
Then Jesus said to the man with the withered hand, “Stand up among us.”3Καὶ λέγει τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ τῷ τὴν «χεῖρα ἔχοντι» ξηράν Ἔγειρε εἰς τὸ μέσον
And He asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?” But they were silent.4καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς Ἔξεστιν τοῖς σάββασιν ἀγαθὸν¦ποιῆσαι κακοποιῆσαι ψυχὴν σῶσαι ἀποκτεῖναι Οἱ δὲ ἐσιώπων
Jesus looked around at them with anger and sorrow at their hardness of heart. Then He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out, and it was restored.5Καὶ περιβλεψάμενος αὐτοὺς μετ’ ὀργῆς συλλυπούμενος* ἐπὶ τῇ πωρώσει τῆς καρδίας αὐτῶν λέγει τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ Ἔκτεινον τὴν χεῖρα (σου) καὶ ἐξέτεινεν καὶ ἀπεκατεστάθη χεὶρ αὐτοῦ
At this, the Pharisees went out and began plotting with the Herodians how they might kill Jesus.6Καὶ ἐξελθόντες οἱ Φαρισαῖοι εὐθὺς μετὰ τῶν Ἡρῳδιανῶν συμβούλιον ἐδίδουν κατ’ αὐτοῦ ὅπως αὐτὸν ἀπολέσωσιν
So Jesus withdrew with His disciples to the sea, accompanied by a large crowd from Galilee, Judea,7Καὶ Ἰησοῦς μετὰ τῶν μαθητῶν αὐτοῦ ἀνεχώρησεν πρὸς τὴν θάλασσαν καὶ πολὺ πλῆθος ἀπὸ τῆς Γαλιλαίας ἠκολούθησεν καὶ ἀπὸ τῆς Ἰουδαίας
Jerusalem, Idumea, the region beyond the Jordan, and the vicinity of Tyre and Sidon. The large crowd came to Him when they heard what great things He was doing.8καὶ ἀπὸ Ἱεροσολύμων καὶ ἀπὸ τῆς Ἰδουμαίας καὶ πέραν τοῦ Ἰορδάνου καὶ περὶ Τύρον καὶ Σιδῶνα πλῆθος πολύ ἀκούοντες ὅσα ἐποίει* ἦλθον πρὸς αὐτόν
Jesus asked His disciples to have a boat ready for Him so that the crowd would not crush Him.9Καὶ εἶπεν τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ ἵνα πλοιάριον προσκαρτερῇ αὐτῷ διὰ τὸν ὄχλον ἵνα μὴ θλίβωσιν αὐτόν
For He had healed so many that all who had diseases were pressing forward to touch Him.10πολλοὺς γὰρ ἐθεράπευσεν ὥστε ἐπιπίπτειν αὐτῷ ἵνα αὐτοῦ ἅψωνται ὅσοι εἶχον μάστιγας
And when the unclean spirits saw Him, they fell down before Him and cried out, “You are the Son of God!”11καὶ τὰ πνεύματα τὰ ἀκάθαρτα ὅταν αὐτὸν ἐθεώρουν προσέπιπτον αὐτῷ καὶ ἔκραζον λέγοντα ὅτι Σὺ εἶ Υἱὸς τοῦ Θεοῦ
But He warned them sternly not to make Him known.12καὶ πολλὰ ἐπετίμα αὐτοῖς ἵνα μὴ αὐτὸν φανερὸν ποιήσωσιν
Then Jesus went up on the mountain and called for those He wanted, and they came to Him.13Καὶ ἀναβαίνει εἰς τὸ ὄρος καὶ προσκαλεῖται οὓς ἤθελεν αὐτός καὶ ἀπῆλθον πρὸς αὐτόν
He appointed twelve of them, whom He designated as apostles, to accompany Him, to be sent out to preach,14καὶ ἐποίησεν δώδεκα [οὓς καὶ ἀποστόλους ὠνόμασεν] ἵνα ὦσιν μετ’ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἵνα ἀποστέλλῃ αὐτοὺς κηρύσσειν
and to have authority to drive out demons.15καὶ ἔχειν ἐξουσίαν ἐκβάλλειν τὰ δαιμόνια
These are the twelve He appointed: Simon (whom He named Peter),16Καὶ ἐποίησεν τοὺς δώδεκα καὶ ἐπέθηκεν ὄνομα τῷ Σίμωνι Πέτρον
James son of Zebedee and his brother John (whom He named Boanerges, meaning “Sons of Thunder”),17καὶ Ἰάκωβον τὸν τοῦ Ζεβεδαίου καὶ Ἰωάννην τὸν ἀδελφὸν τοῦ Ἰακώβου καὶ ἐπέθηκεν αὐτοῖς ὀνόματα* Βοανηργές ἐστιν Υἱοὶ Βροντῆς
Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot,18καὶ Ἀνδρέαν καὶ Φίλιππον καὶ Βαρθολομαῖον καὶ Μαθθαῖον καὶ Θωμᾶν καὶ Ἰάκωβον τὸν τοῦ Ἁλφαίου καὶ Θαδδαῖον καὶ Σίμωνα τὸν Καναναῖον
and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus.19καὶ Ἰούδαν Ἰσκαριώθ ὃς καὶ παρέδωκεν αὐτόν
Then Jesus went home, and once again a crowd gathered, so that He and His disciples could not even eat.20Καὶ ἔρχεται εἰς οἶκον καὶ συνέρχεται πάλιν ὄχλος ὥστε μὴ δύνασθαι αὐτοὺς μηδὲ ἄρτον φαγεῖν
When His family heard about this, they went out to take custody of Him, saying, “He is out of His mind.”21καὶ ἀκούσαντες οἱ παρ’ αὐτοῦ ἐξῆλθον κρατῆσαι αὐτόν ἔλεγον γὰρ ὅτι Ἐξέστη
And the scribes who had come down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and, “By the prince of the demons He drives out demons.”22Καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς οἱ ἀπὸ Ἱεροσολύμων καταβάντες ἔλεγον ὅτι Βεελζεβοὺλ ἔχει καὶ ὅτι Ἐν τῷ ἄρχοντι τῶν δαιμονίων ἐκβάλλει τὰ δαιμόνια
So Jesus called them together and began to speak to them in parables: “How can Satan drive out Satan?23Καὶ προσκαλεσάμενος αὐτοὺς ἐν παραβολαῖς ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς Πῶς δύναται Σατανᾶς Σατανᾶν ἐκβάλλειν
If a kingdom is divided against itself, it cannot stand.24καὶ ἐὰν βασιλεία ἐφ’ ἑαυτὴν μερισθῇ οὐ δύναται σταθῆναι βασιλεία ἐκείνη
If a house is divided against itself, it cannot stand.25καὶ ἐὰν οἰκία ἐφ’ ἑαυτὴν μερισθῇ οὐ δυνήσεται οἰκία ἐκείνη σταθῆναι*
And if Satan is divided and rises against himself, he cannot stand; his end has come.26καὶ εἰ Σατανᾶς ἀνέστη ἐφ’ ἑαυτὸν καὶ ἐμερίσθη οὐ δύναται στῆναι ἀλλὰ τέλος ἔχει
Indeed, no one can enter a strong man’s house to steal his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can plunder his house.27ἀλλ’ οὐ δύναται οὐδεὶς εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν τοῦ ἰσχυροῦ εἰσελθὼν τὰ σκεύη αὐτοῦ διαρπάσαι ἐὰν μὴ πρῶτον τὸν ἰσχυρὸν δήσῃ καὶ τότε τὴν οἰκίαν αὐτοῦ διαρπάσει
Truly I tell you, the sons of men will be forgiven all sins and blasphemies, as many as they utter.28Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι πάντα ἀφεθήσεται τοῖς υἱοῖς τῶν ἀνθρώπων τὰ ἁμαρτήματα καὶ αἱ βλασφημίαι ὅσα ἐὰν βλασφημήσωσιν
But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of eternal sin.”29ὃς δ’ ἂν βλασφημήσῃ εἰς τὸ Πνεῦμα τὸ Ἅγιον οὐκ ἔχει ἄφεσιν εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα ἀλλὰ ἔνοχός ἐστιν αἰωνίου ἁμαρτήματος
Jesus made this statement because they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.”30Ὅτι ἔλεγον Πνεῦμα ἀκάθαρτον ἔχει
Then Jesus’ mother and brothers came and stood outside. They sent someone in to summon Him,31Καὶ ἔρχονται μήτηρ αὐτοῦ καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔξω στήκοντες ἀπέστειλαν πρὸς αὐτὸν καλοῦντες αὐτόν
and a crowd was sitting around Him. “Look,” He was told, “Your mother and brothers are outside, asking for You.”32καὶ ἐκάθητο περὶ αὐτὸν ὄχλος καὶ λέγουσιν αὐτῷ Ἰδοὺ μήτηρ σου καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοί σου καὶ αἱ ἀδελφαί σου ἔξω ζητοῦσίν σε
But Jesus replied, “Who are My mother and My brothers?”33Καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς αὐτοῖς λέγει Τίς ἐστιν μήτηρ μου καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοί ‹μου›
Looking at those seated in a circle around Him, He said, “Here are My mother and My brothers!34καὶ περιβλεψάμενος τοὺς περὶ αὐτὸν κύκλῳ καθημένους λέγει Ἴδε μήτηρ μου καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοί μου
For whoever does the will of God is My brother and sister and mother.”35ὃς ‹γὰρ› ἂν ποιήσῃ τὸ θέλημα τοῦ Θεοῦ οὗτος ἀδελφός μου καὶ ἀδελφὴ καὶ μήτηρ ἐστίν
