“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.1Μὴ ταρασσέσθω ὑμῶν καρδία πιστεύετε εἰς τὸν Θεόν καὶ εἰς ἐμὲ πιστεύετε
In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?2ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ τοῦ Πατρός μου μοναὶ πολλαί εἰσιν εἰ δὲ μή εἶπον ἂν ὑμῖν ὅτι πορεύομαι ἑτοιμάσαι τόπον ὑμῖν
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.3καὶ ἐὰν πορευθῶ καὶ ἑτοιμάσω τόπον ὑμῖν πάλιν ἔρχομαι καὶ παραλήμψομαι ὑμᾶς πρὸς ἐμαυτόν ἵνα ὅπου εἰμὶ ἐγὼ καὶ ὑμεῖς ἦτε
And you know the way to where I am going.”4καὶ ὅπου ἐγὼ ὑπάγω οἴδατε τὴν ὁδόν
Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”5Λέγει αὐτῷ Θωμᾶς Κύριε οὐκ οἴδαμεν ποῦ ὑπάγεις πῶς δυνάμεθα* τὴν ὁδὸν ‹εἰδέναι›
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.6Λέγει αὐτῷ ‹ὁ› Ἰησοῦς Ἐγώ εἰμι ὁδὸς καὶ ἀλήθεια καὶ ζωή οὐδεὶς ἔρχεται πρὸς τὸν Πατέρα εἰ μὴ δι’ ἐμοῦ
If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”7εἰ ἐγνώκειτέ με καὶ τὸν Πατέρα μου ‹ἂν ᾔδειτε› ἀπ’ ἄρτι γινώσκετε αὐτὸν καὶ ἑωράκατε ‹αὐτόν›
Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.”8Λέγει αὐτῷ Φίλιππος Κύριε δεῖξον ἡμῖν τὸν Πατέρα καὶ ἀρκεῖ ἡμῖν
Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?9Λέγει αὐτῷ Ἰησοῦς Τοσούτῳ* χρόνῳ* μεθ’ ὑμῶν εἰμι καὶ οὐκ ἔγνωκάς με Φίλιππε ἑωρακὼς ἐμὲ ἑώρακεν τὸν Πατέρα πῶς σὺ λέγεις Δεῖξον ἡμῖν τὸν Πατέρα
Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works.10οὐ πιστεύεις ὅτι ἐγὼ ἐν τῷ Πατρὶ καὶ Πατὴρ ἐν ἐμοί ἐστιν τὰ ῥήματα ἐγὼ λέγω ὑμῖν ἀπ’ ἐμαυτοῦ οὐ λαλῶ δὲ Πατὴρ ἐν ἐμοὶ μένων ποιεῖ τὰ ἔργα αὐτοῦ
Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.11πιστεύετέ μοι ὅτι ἐγὼ ἐν τῷ Πατρὶ καὶ Πατὴρ ἐν ἐμοί εἰ δὲ μή διὰ τὰ ἔργα αὐτὰ πιστεύετε
“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.12Ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν πιστεύων εἰς ἐμὲ τὰ ἔργα ἐγὼ ποιῶ κἀκεῖνος ποιήσει καὶ μείζονα τούτων ποιήσει ὅτι ἐγὼ πρὸς τὸν Πατέρα πορεύομαι
Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.13καὶ ὅ¦τι ἂν αἰτήσητε ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί μου τοῦτο ποιήσω ἵνα δοξασθῇ Πατὴρ ἐν τῷ Υἱῷ
If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.14ἐάν τι αἰτήσητέ με ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί μου ἐγὼ ποιήσω
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.15Ἐὰν ἀγαπᾶτέ με τὰς ἐντολὰς τὰς ἐμὰς τηρήσετε
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,16Κἀγὼ ἐρωτήσω τὸν Πατέρα καὶ ἄλλον Παράκλητον δώσει ὑμῖν ἵνα «μεθ’ ὑμῶν εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα»
even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.17τὸ Πνεῦμα τῆς ἀληθείας κόσμος οὐ δύναται λαβεῖν ὅτι οὐ θεωρεῖ αὐτὸ οὐδὲ γινώσκει ὑμεῖς γινώσκετε αὐτό ὅτι παρ’ ὑμῖν μένει καὶ ἐν ὑμῖν ἔσται
“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.18Οὐκ ἀφήσω ὑμᾶς ὀρφανούς ἔρχομαι πρὸς ὑμᾶς
Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.19ἔτι μικρὸν καὶ κόσμος με οὐκέτι θεωρεῖ ὑμεῖς δὲ θεωρεῖτέ με ὅτι ἐγὼ ζῶ καὶ ὑμεῖς ζήσετε
In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.20ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ γνώσεσθε ὑμεῖς ὅτι ἐγὼ ἐν τῷ Πατρί μου καὶ ὑμεῖς ἐν ἐμοὶ κἀγὼ ἐν ὑμῖν
Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.”21 ἔχων τὰς ἐντολάς μου καὶ τηρῶν αὐτὰς ἐκεῖνός ἐστιν ἀγαπῶν με δὲ ἀγαπῶν με ἀγαπηθήσεται ὑπὸ τοῦ Πατρός μου κἀγὼ ἀγαπήσω αὐτὸν καὶ ἐμφανίσω αὐτῷ ἐμαυτόν
Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?”22Λέγει αὐτῷ Ἰούδας οὐχ Ἰσκαριώτης Κύριε καὶ τί γέγονεν ὅτι ἡμῖν μέλλεις ἐμφανίζειν σεαυτὸν καὶ οὐχὶ τῷ κόσμῳ
Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.23Ἀπεκρίθη Ἰησοῦς καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ἐάν τις ἀγαπᾷ με τὸν λόγον μου τηρήσει καὶ Πατήρ μου ἀγαπήσει αὐτόν καὶ πρὸς αὐτὸν ἐλευσόμεθα καὶ μονὴν παρ’ αὐτῷ ποιησόμεθα
Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but the Father’s who sent me.24 μὴ ἀγαπῶν με τοὺς λόγους μου οὐ τηρεῖ καὶ λόγος ὃν ἀκούετε οὐκ ἔστιν ἐμὸς ἀλλὰ τοῦ πέμψαντός με Πατρός
“These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you.25Ταῦτα λελάληκα ὑμῖν παρ’ ὑμῖν μένων
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.26 δὲ Παράκλητος τὸ Πνεῦμα τὸ Ἅγιον πέμψει Πατὴρ ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί μου ἐκεῖνος ὑμᾶς διδάξει πάντα καὶ ὑπομνήσει ὑμᾶς πάντα εἶπον ὑμῖν ἐγώ
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.27Εἰρήνην ἀφίημι ὑμῖν εἰρήνην τὴν ἐμὴν δίδωμι ὑμῖν οὐ καθὼς κόσμος δίδωσιν ἐγὼ δίδωμι ὑμῖν μὴ ταρασσέσθω ὑμῶν καρδία μηδὲ δειλιάτω
You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.28ἠκούσατε ὅτι ἐγὼ εἶπον ὑμῖν Ὑπάγω καὶ ἔρχομαι πρὸς ὑμᾶς εἰ ἠγαπᾶτέ με ἐχάρητε ἄν ὅτι πορεύομαι πρὸς τὸν Πατέρα ὅτι Πατὴρ μείζων μού ἐστιν
And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe.29καὶ νῦν εἴρηκα ὑμῖν πρὶν γενέσθαι ἵνα ὅταν γένηται πιστεύσητε
I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no claim on me,30Οὐκέτι πολλὰ λαλήσω μεθ’ ὑμῶν ἔρχεται γὰρ τοῦ κόσμου ἄρχων καὶ ἐν ἐμοὶ οὐκ ἔχει οὐδέν
but I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go from here.31ἀλλ’ ἵνα γνῷ κόσμος ὅτι ἀγαπῶ τὸν Πατέρα καὶ καθὼς ἐνετείλατο (ἔδωκέν) μοι Πατὴρ οὕτως ποιῶ Ἐγείρεσθε ἄγωμεν ἐντεῦθεν
