"Do not judge, so that you won't be judged.1Μὴ κρίνετε ἵνα μὴ κριθῆτε
For with the judgment you use, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.2ἐν γὰρ κρίματι κρίνετε κριθήσεσθε καὶ ἐν μέτρῳ μετρεῖτε μετρηθήσεται ὑμῖν
Why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye but don't notice the log in your own eye?3Τί δὲ βλέπεις τὸ κάρφος τὸ ἐν τῷ ὀφθαλμῷ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ σου τὴν δὲ ἐν τῷ σῷ ὀφθαλμῷ δοκὸν οὐ κατανοεῖς
Or how can you say to your brother, Let me take the speck out of your eye,' and look, there's a log in your eye?
Hypocrite! First take the log out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.
Don't give what is holy to dogs or toss your pearls before pigs, or they will trample them with their feet, turn, and tear you to pieces.
"Keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks receives, and the one who searches finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
What man among you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?9 τίς ἐστιν ἐξ ὑμῶν ἄνθρωπος ὃν αἰτήσει υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἄρτον μὴ λίθον ἐπιδώσει αὐτῷ
Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?10 καὶ ἰχθὺν αἰτήσει μὴ ὄφιν ἐπιδώσει αὐτῷ
If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! 11εἰ οὖν ὑμεῖς πονηροὶ ὄντες οἴδατε δόματα ἀγαθὰ διδόναι τοῖς τέκνοις ὑμῶν πόσῳ μᾶλλον Πατὴρ ὑμῶν ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς δώσει ἀγαθὰ τοῖς αἰτοῦσιν αὐτόν
Therefore, whatever you want others to do for you, do also the same for them--this is the Law and the Prophets.
"Enter through the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the road is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who go through it.
How narrow is the gate and difficult the road that leads to life, and few find it. 14ὅτι στενὴ πύλη καὶ τεθλιμμένη ὁδὸς ἀπάγουσα εἰς τὴν ζωήν καὶ ὀλίγοι εἰσὶν οἱ εὑρίσκοντες αὐτήν
"Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravaging wolves.15Προσέχετε ἀπὸ τῶν ψευδοπροφητῶν οἵτινες ἔρχονται πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἐν ἐνδύμασιν προβάτων ἔσωθεν δέ εἰσιν λύκοι ἅρπαγες
You'll recognize them by their fruit. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes or figs from thistles?16ἀπὸ τῶν καρπῶν αὐτῶν ἐπιγνώσεσθε αὐτούς μήτι συλλέγουσιν ἀπὸ ἀκανθῶν σταφυλὰς ἀπὸ τριβόλων σῦκα
In the same way, every good tree produces good fruit, but a bad tree produces bad fruit.
A good tree can't produce bad fruit; neither can a bad tree produce good fruit.
Every tree that doesn't produce good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.19πᾶν δένδρον μὴ ποιοῦν καρπὸν καλὸν ἐκκόπτεται καὶ εἰς πῦρ βάλλεται
So you'll recognize them by their fruit.
"Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord!' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of My Father in heaven.21Οὐ πᾶς λέγων μοι Κύριε Κύριε εἰσελεύσεται εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τῶν οὐρανῶν ἀλλ’ ποιῶν τὸ θέλημα τοῦ Πατρός μου τοῦ ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς
On that day many will say to Me, Lord, Lord, didn't we prophesy in Your name, drive out demons in Your name, and do many miracles in Your name?'22πολλοὶ ἐροῦσίν μοι ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ Κύριε Κύριε οὐ τῷ σῷ ὀνόματι ἐπροφητεύσαμεν καὶ τῷ σῷ ὀνόματι δαιμόνια ἐξεβάλομεν καὶ τῷ σῷ ὀνόματι δυνάμεις πολλὰς ἐποιήσαμεν
Then I will announce to them, I never knew you! Depart from Me, you lawbreakers!' 23καὶ τότε ὁμολογήσω αὐτοῖς ὅτι Οὐδέποτε ἔγνων ὑμᾶς ἀποχωρεῖτε ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ οἱ ἐργαζόμενοι τὴν ἀνομίαν
"Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them will be like a sensible man who built his house on the rock.
The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn't collapse, because its foundation was on the rock.
But everyone who hears these words of Mine and doesn't act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.
The rain fell, the rivers rose, the winds blew and pounded that house, and it collapsed. And its collapse was great!" 27καὶ κατέβη βροχὴ καὶ ἦλθον οἱ ποταμοὶ καὶ ἔπνευσαν οἱ ἄνεμοι καὶ προσέκοψαν τῇ οἰκίᾳ ἐκείνῃ καὶ ἔπεσεν καὶ ἦν πτῶσις αὐτῆς μεγάλη
When Jesus had finished this sermon, the crowds were astonished at His teaching,28Καὶ ἐγένετο ὅτε ἐτέλεσεν Ἰησοῦς τοὺς λόγους τούτους ἐξεπλήσσοντο οἱ ὄχλοι ἐπὶ τῇ διδαχῇ αὐτοῦ
because He was teaching them like one who had authority, and not like their scribes.
