1 Therefore, my brothers, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, that is how you must stand firm in the Lord, my beloved. Therefore, my brothers, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm thus in the Lord, my beloved. Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, <i>my</i> dearly beloved. 2 I urge Euodia and Syntyche to agree with each other in the Lord. I entreat Euodia and I entreat Syntyche to agree in the Lord. I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord. I urge Euodia and I urge Syntyche to live in harmony in the Lord. I plead with Euodia and I plead with Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord.
3 Yes, and I ask you, my true yokefellow, to help these women who have labored with me for the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the Book of Life. Yes, I ask you also, true companion, help these women, who have labored side by side with me in the gospel together with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life. And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and <i>with</i> other my fellowlabourers, whose names <i>are</i> in the book of life. Indeed, true companion, I ask you also, help these women who have shared my struggle in <i>the cause of</i> the gospel, together with Clement as well as the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life. Yes, and I ask you, my true companion, help these women since they have contended at my side in the cause of the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers, whose names are in the book of life.
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Rejoice in the Lord alway: <i>and</i> again I say, Rejoice. Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
5 Let your gentleness be apparent to all. The Lord is near. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord <i>is</i> at hand. Let your gentle <i>spirit</i> be known to all people. The Lord is near. Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me, put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. As for the things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
10 Now I rejoice greatly in the Lord that at last you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity. But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity. But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at last you have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned <i>before,</i> but you lacked an opportunity <i>to act.</i> I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you were concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it.
11 I am not saying this out of need, for I have learned to be content regardless of my circumstances. Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, <i>therewith</i> to be content. Not that I speak from need, for I have learned to be content in whatever <i>circumstances</i> I am. I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.
12 I know how to live humbly, and I know how to abound. I am accustomed to any and every situation— to being filled and being hungry, to having plenty and having need. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I know how to get along with little, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every <i>circumstance</i> I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.
13 I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. I can do all things through him who strengthens me. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
14 Nevertheless, you have done well to share in my affliction. Yet it was kind of you to share my trouble. Notwithstanding ye have well done, that ye did communicate with my affliction. Nevertheless, you have done well to share <i>with me</i> in my difficulty. Yet it was good of you to share in my troubles.
15 And as you Philippians know, in the early days of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church but you partnered with me in the matter of giving and receiving. And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only. Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only. You yourselves also know, Philippians, that at the first <i>preaching</i> of the gospel, after I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving except you alone; Moreover, as you Philippians know, in the early days of your acquaintance with the gospel, when I set out from Macedonia, not one church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving, except you only;
16 For even while I was in Thessalonica, you provided for my needs again and again. Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again. For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity. for even in Thessalonica you sent <i>a gift</i> more than once for my needs. for even when I was in Thessalonica, you sent me aid more than once when I was in need.
17 Not that I am seeking a gift, but I am looking for the fruit that may be credited to your account. Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit. Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account. Not that I seek the gift <i>itself,</i> but I seek the profit which increases to your account. Not that I desire your gifts; what I desire is that more be credited to your account.
18 I have all I need and more, now that I have received your gifts from Epaphroditus. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God. I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God. But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things <i>which were sent</i> from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God. But I have received everything in full and have an abundance; I am amply supplied, having received from Epaphroditus what you have sent, a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. I have received full payment and have more than enough. I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.
19 And my God will supply all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus. And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
20 To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen. To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen. Now unto God and our Father <i>be</i> glory for ever and ever. Amen.
