1Six days later Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John the brother of James, and led them privately up a high mountain.1Καὶ μεθ’ ἡμέρας ἓξ παραλαμβάνει Ἰησοῦς τὸν Πέτρον καὶ Ἰάκωβον καὶ Ἰωάννην τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀναφέρει αὐτοὺς εἰς ὄρος ὑψηλὸν κατ’ ἰδίαν
2And he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light.2καὶ μετεμορφώθη ἔμπροσθεν αὐτῶν καὶ ἔλαμψεν τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ὡς ἥλιος τὰ δὲ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ ἐγένετο λευκὰ ὡς τὸ φῶς
3Then Moses and Elijah also appeared before them, talking with him.3Καὶ ἰδοὺ ὤφθη αὐτοῖς Μωϋσῆς καὶ Ἠλίας συλλαλοῦντες* μετ’ αὐτοῦ
4So Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you want, I will make three shelters--one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."4ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ Πέτρος εἶπεν τῷ Ἰησοῦ Κύριε καλόν ἐστιν ἡμᾶς ὧδε εἶναι εἰ θέλεις ποιήσω ὧδε τρεῖς σκηνάς σοὶ μίαν καὶ Μωϋσεῖ μίαν καὶ Ἠλίᾳ μίαν
5While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my one dear Son, in whom I take great delight. Listen to him!"5Ἔτι αὐτοῦ λαλοῦντος ἰδοὺ νεφέλη φωτεινὴ ἐπεσκίασεν αὐτούς καὶ ἰδοὺ φωνὴ ἐκ τῆς νεφέλης λέγουσα Οὗτός ἐστιν Υἱός μου ἀγαπητός ἐν εὐδόκησα ἀκούετε αὐτοῦ
6When the disciples heard this, they were overwhelmed with fear and threw themselves down with their faces to the ground.6καὶ ἀκούσαντες οἱ μαθηταὶ ἔπεσαν ἐπὶ πρόσωπον αὐτῶν καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν σφόδρα
7But Jesus came and touched them. "Get up," he said. "Do not be afraid."7Καὶ προσῆλθεν Ἰησοῦς καὶ ἁψάμενος αὐτῶν εἶπεν Ἐγέρθητε καὶ μὴ φοβεῖσθε
8When they looked up, all they saw was Jesus alone.
9As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, "Do not tell anyone about the vision until the Son of Man is raised from the dead."9Καὶ καταβαινόντων αὐτῶν ἐκ τοῦ ὄρους ἐνετείλατο αὐτοῖς Ἰησοῦς λέγων Μηδενὶ εἴπητε τὸ ὅραμα ἕως οὗ Υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐκ νεκρῶν ἐγερθῇ
10The disciples asked him, "Why then do the experts in the law say that Elijah must come first?"10Καὶ ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν οἱ μαθηταὶ λέγοντες Τί οὖν οἱ γραμματεῖς λέγουσιν ὅτι Ἠλίαν δεῖ ἐλθεῖν πρῶτον
11He answered, "Elijah does indeed come first and will restore all things.11 δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν Ἠλίας μὲν ἔρχεται καὶ ἀποκαταστήσει πάντα
12And I tell you that Elijah has already come. Yet they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they wanted. In the same way, the Son of Man will suffer at their hands."12λέγω δὲ ὑμῖν ὅτι Ἠλίας ἤδη ἦλθεν καὶ οὐκ ἐπέγνωσαν αὐτὸν ἀλλὰ* ἐποίησαν ἐν αὐτῷ ὅσα ἠθέλησαν οὕτως καὶ Υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου μέλλει πάσχειν ὑπ’ αὐτῶν
13Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them about John the Baptist.
14When they came to the crowd, a man came to him, knelt before him,14Καὶ ἐλθόντων πρὸς τὸν ὄχλον προσῆλθεν αὐτῷ ἄνθρωπος γονυπετῶν αὐτὸν
15and said, "Lord, have mercy on my son, because he has seizures and suffers terribly, for he often falls into the fire and into the water.15καὶ λέγων Κύριε ἐλέησόν μου τὸν υἱόν ὅτι σεληνιάζεται καὶ κακῶς πάσχει* πολλάκις γὰρ πίπτει εἰς τὸ πῦρ καὶ πολλάκις εἰς τὸ ὕδωρ
16I brought him to your disciples, but they were not able to heal him."16καὶ προσήνεγκα αὐτὸν τοῖς μαθηταῖς σου καὶ οὐκ ἠδυνήθησαν αὐτὸν θεραπεῦσαι
17Jesus answered, "You unbelieving and perverse generation! How much longer must I be with you? How much longer must I endure you? Bring him here to me."17Ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν γενεὰ ἄπιστος καὶ διεστραμμένη ἕως πότε μεθ’ ὑμῶν ἔσομαι ἕως πότε ἀνέξομαι ὑμῶν φέρετέ μοι αὐτὸν ὧδε
18Then Jesus rebuked the demon and it came out of him, and the boy was healed from that moment.18καὶ ἐπετίμησεν αὐτῷ Ἰησοῦς καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ τὸ δαιμόνιον καὶ ἐθεραπεύθη παῖς ἀπὸ τῆς ὥρας ἐκείνης
19Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, "Why couldn't we cast it out?"19Τότε προσελθόντες οἱ μαθηταὶ τῷ Ἰησοῦ κατ’ ἰδίαν εἶπον Διὰ τί ἡμεῖς οὐκ ἠδυνήθημεν ἐκβαλεῖν αὐτό
20He told them, "It was because of your little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; nothing will be impossible for you." 20 δὲ λέγει αὐτοῖς Διὰ τὴν ὀλιγοπιστίαν ὑμῶν ἀμὴν γὰρ λέγω ὑμῖν ἐὰν ἔχητε πίστιν ὡς κόκκον σινάπεως ἐρεῖτε τῷ ὄρει τούτῳ Μετάβα ἔνθεν ἐκεῖ καὶ μεταβήσεται καὶ οὐδὲν ἀδυνατήσει ὑμῖν
22When they gathered together in Galilee, Jesus told them, "The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men.22Συστρεφομένων δὲ αὐτῶν ἐν τῇ Γαλιλαίᾳ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ἰησοῦς Μέλλει Υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου παραδίδοσθαι εἰς χεῖρας ἀνθρώπων
23They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised." And they became greatly distressed. 23καὶ ἀποκτενοῦσιν αὐτόν καὶ τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ ἐγερθήσεται καὶ ἐλυπήθησαν σφόδρα
24After they arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the temple tax came to Peter and said, "Your teacher pays the double drachma tax, doesn't he?"24Ἐλθόντων δὲ αὐτῶν εἰς Καφαρναοὺμ προσῆλθον οἱ τὰ δίδραχμα λαμβάνοντες τῷ Πέτρῳ καὶ εἶπαν διδάσκαλος ὑμῶν οὐ τελεῖ ‹τὰ› δίδραχμα
25He said, "Yes." When Peter came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do earthly kings collect tolls or taxes--from their sons or from foreigners?"25Λέγει Ναί Καὶ ἐλθόντα εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν προέφθασεν αὐτὸν Ἰησοῦς λέγων Τί σοι δοκεῖ Σίμων οἱ βασιλεῖς τῆς γῆς ἀπὸ τίνων λαμβάνουσιν τέλη κῆνσον ἀπὸ τῶν υἱῶν αὐτῶν ἀπὸ τῶν ἀλλοτρίων
26After he said, "From foreigners," Jesus said to him, "Then the sons are free.26Εἰπόντος δέ Ἀπὸ τῶν ἀλλοτρίων ἔφη αὐτῷ Ἰησοῦς Ἄρα¦Γε ἐλεύθεροί εἰσιν οἱ υἱοί
27But so that we don't offend them, go to the lake and throw out a hook. Take the first fish that comes up, and when you open its mouth, you will find a four drachma coin. Take that and give it to them for me and you." 27ἵνα δὲ μὴ σκανδαλίσωμεν αὐτούς πορευθεὶς εἰς θάλασσαν βάλε ἄγκιστρον καὶ τὸν ἀναβάντα πρῶτον ἰχθὺν ἆρον καὶ ἀνοίξας τὸ στόμα αὐτοῦ εὑρήσεις στατῆρα ἐκεῖνον λαβὼν δὸς αὐτοῖς ἀντὶ ἐμοῦ καὶ σοῦ
