The Parable of the Workers
1 Ὁμοία (Like) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens) ἀνθρώπῳ (a man) οἰκοδεσπότῃ (a master of a house), ὅστις (who) ἐξῆλθεν (went out) ἅμα (in) πρωῒ (the morning) μισθώσασθαι (to hire) ἐργάτας (workmen) εἰς (for) τὸν (the) ἀμπελῶνα (vineyard) αὐτοῦ (of him).
2 συμφωνήσας (Having agreed) δὲ (then) μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) ἐργατῶν (workmen) ἐκ (for) δηναρίου (a denarius) τὴν (-) ἡμέραν (a day) ἀπέστειλεν (he sent) αὐτοὺς (them) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) ἀμπελῶνα (vineyard) αὐτοῦ (of him).
3 Καὶ (And) ἐξελθὼν (having gone out) περὶ (about) τρίτην (the third) ὥραν (hour) εἶδεν (he saw) ἄλλους (others) ἑστῶτας (standing) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἀγορᾷ (marketplace) ἀργούς (idle),
4 καὶ (and) ἐκείνοις (to those ones) εἶπεν (he said)· Ὑπάγετε (Go) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you⁺) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) ἀμπελῶνα (vineyard), καὶ (and) ὃ (whatever) ἐὰν (if) ᾖ (may be) δίκαιον (right) δώσω (I will give) ὑμῖν (you⁺).
5 οἱ (-) δὲ (And) ἀπῆλθον (they went away).
Πάλιν (Again) δὲ (then) ἐξελθὼν (having gone out) περὶ (about) ἕκτην (the sixth) καὶ (and) ἐνάτην (ninth) ὥραν (hour) ἐποίησεν (he did) ὡσαύτως (likewise).
6 Περὶ (About) δὲ (then) τὴν (the) ἑνδεκάτην (eleventh) ἐξελθὼν (having gone out) εὗρεν (he found) ἄλλους (others) ἑστῶτας (standing), καὶ (and) λέγει (he says) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Τί (Why) ὧδε (here) ἑστήκατε (do you⁺ stand) ὅλην (all) τὴν (the) ἡμέραν (day) ἀργοί (idle)?
7 Λέγουσιν (They say) αὐτῷ (to him)· Ὅτι (Because) οὐδεὶς (no one) ἡμᾶς (us) ἐμισθώσατο (hired).
Λέγει (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Ὑπάγετε (Go) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (You⁺) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) ἀμπελῶνα (vineyard).
8 Ὀψίας (Evening) δὲ (then) γενομένης (having come) λέγει (says) ὁ (the) κύριος (master) τοῦ (of the) ἀμπελῶνος (vineyard) τῷ (to) ἐπιτρόπῳ (foreman) αὐτοῦ (of him)· Κάλεσον (Call) τοὺς (the) ἐργάτας (workmen) καὶ (and) ἀπόδος (pay) αὐτοῖς (them) τὸν (the) μισθόν (wages), ἀρξάμενος (having begun) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (the) ἐσχάτων (last) ἕως (up to) τῶν (the) πρώτων (first).
9 Καὶ (And) ἐλθόντες (having come) οἱ (the ones) περὶ (of about) τὴν (the) ἑνδεκάτην (eleventh) ὥραν (hour) ἔλαβον (received) ἀνὰ (each) δηνάριον (a denarius).
10 καὶ (And) ἐλθόντες (having come) οἱ (the) πρῶτοι (first) ἐνόμισαν (thought) ὅτι (that) πλεῖον (more) λήμψονται (they will receive)· καὶ (but) ἔλαβον (they received) τὸ (those) ἀνὰ (each) δηνάριον (a denarius) καὶ (also) αὐτοί (themselves).
11 Λαβόντες (Having received it) δὲ (now) ἐγόγγυζον (they were grumbling) κατὰ (against) τοῦ (the) οἰκοδεσπότου (master of the house)
12 λέγοντες (saying)· Οὗτοι (These) οἱ (the) ἔσχατοι (last) μίαν (one) ὥραν (hour) ἐποίησαν (worked), καὶ (and) ἴσους (equal) ἡμῖν (to us) αὐτοὺς (them) ἐποίησας (you made) τοῖς (the ones) βαστάσασι (having borne) τὸ (the) βάρος (burden) τῆς (of the) ἡμέρας (day) καὶ (and) τὸν (the) καύσωνα (scorching heat).
13 Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering) ἑνὶ (one) αὐτῶν (of them) εἶπεν (he said)· Ἑταῖρε (Friend), οὐκ (not) ἀδικῶ (I am doing wrong) σε (you)· οὐχὶ (Not) δηναρίου (on a denarius) συνεφώνησάς (did you agree with) μοι (me)?
14 ἆρον (Take) τὸ (what is) σὸν (yours) καὶ (and) ὕπαγε (go)· θέλω (I want) δὲ (but) τούτῳ (to this) τῷ (-) ἐσχάτῳ (last one) δοῦναι (to give) ὡς (as) καὶ (also) σοί (to you)·
15 ἢ (Or) οὐκ (not) ἔξεστίν (is it lawful) μοι (for me) ὃ (what) θέλω (I want) ποιῆσαι (to do) ἐν (with) τοῖς (what is) ἐμοῖς (mine)? ἢ (Or) ὁ (the) ὀφθαλμός (eye) σου (of you) πονηρός (evil) ἐστιν (is) ὅτι (because) ἐγὼ (I) ἀγαθός (good) εἰμι (am)?
16 Οὕτως (Thus) ἔσονται (will be) οἱ (the) ἔσχατοι (last) πρῶτοι (first) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) πρῶτοι (first) ἔσχατοι (last).
The Third Prediction of the Passion
(Mark 10:32–34; Luke 18:31–34)
17 Καὶ (And) ἀναβαίνων (going up) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἰς (to) Ἱεροσόλυμα (Jerusalem) παρέλαβεν (He took aside) τοὺς (the) δώδεκα (twelve) μαθητὰς (disciples) κατ’ (by) ἰδίαν (themselves), καὶ (and) ἐν (on) τῇ (the) ὁδῷ (way) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them)·
18 Ἰδοὺ (Behold) ἀναβαίνομεν (we are going up) εἰς (to) Ἱεροσόλυμα (Jerusalem), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) παραδοθήσεται (will be betrayed) τοῖς (to the) ἀρχιερεῦσιν (chief priests) καὶ (and) γραμματεῦσιν (scribes), καὶ (and) κατακρινοῦσιν (they will condemn) αὐτὸν (Him) εἰς (to) θανάτῳ (death),
19 καὶ (and) παραδώσουσιν (they will betray) αὐτὸν (Him) τοῖς (the) ἔθνεσιν (Gentiles) εἰς (to) τὸ (-) ἐμπαῖξαι (to mock) καὶ (and) μαστιγῶσαι (to flog) καὶ (and) σταυρῶσαι (to crucify), καὶ (and) τῇ (on the) τρίτῃ (third) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ἐγερθήσεται (He will be raised up).
A Mother’s Request

20 Τότε (Then) προσῆλθεν (came) αὐτῷ (to Him) ἡ (the) μήτηρ (mother) τῶν (of the) υἱῶν (sons) Ζεβεδαίου (of Zebedee) μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) υἱῶν (sons) αὐτῆς (of her) προσκυνοῦσα (kneeling down) καὶ (and) αἰτοῦσά (asking) τι (something) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτοῦ (Him).
21 Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτῇ (to her)· Τί (What) θέλεις (do you want)?
Λέγει (She says) αὐτῷ (to Him)· Εἰπὲ (Say) ἵνα (that) καθίσωσιν (shall sit) οὗτοι (these) οἱ (-) δύο (two) υἱοί (sons) μου (of mine) εἷς (one) ἐκ (at) δεξιῶν (the right hand) σου (of You) καὶ (and) εἷς (one) ἐξ (at) εὐωνύμων (the left hand) σου (of You) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) βασιλείᾳ (kingdom) σου (of You).
22 Ἀποκριθεὶς (Answering) δὲ (now) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said)· Οὐκ (Not) οἴδατε (you⁺ know) τί (what) αἰτεῖσθε (you⁺ are asking). δύνασθε (Are you⁺ able) πιεῖν (to drink) τὸ (the) ποτήριον (cup) ὃ (that) ἐγὼ (I) μέλλω (am about) πίνειν (to drink)? Λέγουσιν (They say) αὐτῷ (to Him)· Δυνάμεθα (We are able).
23 Λέγει (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Τὸ (-) μὲν (Indeed) ποτήριόν (the cup) μου (of Me) πίεσθε (You⁺ will drink), τὸ (-) δὲ (but) καθίσαι (to sit) ἐκ (at) δεξιῶν (the right hand) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) ἐξ (at) εὐωνύμων (the left) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) ἐμὸν (Mine) τοῦτο (this) δοῦναι (to give), ἀλλ’ (but) οἷς (to those for whom) ἡτοίμασται (it has been prepared) ὑπὸ (by) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me).
24 Καὶ (And) ἀκούσαντες (having heard) οἱ (the) δέκα (ten) ἠγανάκτησαν (were indignant) περὶ (about) τῶν (the) δύο (two) ἀδελφῶν (brothers).
25 ὁ (-) δὲ (But) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) προσκαλεσάμενος (having summoned) αὐτοὺς (them) εἶπεν (said)· Οἴδατε (You⁺ know) ὅτι (that) οἱ (the) ἄρχοντες (rulers) τῶν (of the) ἐθνῶν (Gentiles) κατακυριεύουσιν (exercise lordship over) αὐτῶν (them) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) μεγάλοι (great ones) κατεξουσιάζουσιν (exercise authority over) αὐτῶν (them).
26 οὐχ (Not) οὕτως (this way) ἔσται (will it be) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you⁺)· ἀλλ’ (but) ὃς (whoever) ἐὰν (if) θέλῃ (may want) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you⁺) μέγας (great) γενέσθαι (to become), ἔσται (he will be) ὑμῶν (your⁺) διάκονος (servant),
27 καὶ (and) ὃς (whoever) ἂν (-) θέλῃ (may want) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you⁺) εἶναι (to be) πρῶτος (first), ἔσται (he will be) ὑμῶν (your⁺) δοῦλος (slave)·
28 ὥσπερ (even as) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) οὐκ (not) ἦλθεν (came) διακονηθῆναι (to be served), ἀλλὰ (but) διακονῆσαι (to serve) καὶ (and) δοῦναι (to give) τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (life) αὐτοῦ (of Him) λύτρον (as a ransom) ἀντὶ (for) πολλῶν (many).

29 Καὶ (And) ἐκπορευομένων (going out) αὐτῶν (they) ἀπὸ (from) Ἰεριχὼ (Jericho) ἠκολούθησεν (followed) αὐτῷ (Him) ὄχλος (a crowd) πολύς (great).
30 καὶ (And) ἰδοὺ (behold) δύο (two) τυφλοὶ (blind men) καθήμενοι (sitting) παρὰ (beside) τὴν (the) ὁδόν (road), ἀκούσαντες (having heard) ὅτι (that) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) παράγει (is passing by), ἔκραξαν (cried out) λέγοντες (saying)· ἐλέησον (Have mercy on) ἡμᾶς (us), Κύριε (Lord), υἱὸς (Son) Δαυίδ (of David).
31 Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ὄχλος (the crowd) ἐπετίμησεν (rebuked) αὐτοῖς (them) ἵνα (that) σιωπήσωσιν (they should be silent)· οἱ (-) δὲ (But) μεῖζον (all the more) ἔκραξαν (they cried out) λέγοντες (saying)· ἐλέησον (have mercy on) ἡμᾶς (us), Κύριε (Lord), υἱὸς (Son) Δαυίδ (of David).
32 Καὶ (And) στὰς (having stood) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐφώνησεν (called) αὐτοὺς (them) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said)· Τί (What) θέλετε (do you⁺ want that) ποιήσω (I may do) ὑμῖν (for you⁺)?
33 Λέγουσιν (They say) αὐτῷ (to Him)· Κύριε (Lord), ἵνα (that) ἀνοιγῶσιν (may be opened) οἱ (the) ὀφθαλμοὶ (eyes) ἡμῶν (of us).
34 Σπλαγχνισθεὶς (Having been moved with compassion) δὲ (then) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἥψατο (touched) τῶν (the) ὀμμάτων (eyes) αὐτῶν (of them), καὶ (and) εὐθέως (immediately) ἀνέβλεψαν (they received their sight) καὶ (and) ἠκολούθησαν (they followed) αὐτῷ (Him).
