Reaffirm Your Love
1Ἔκρινα (I judged) γὰρ* (for) ἐμαυτῷ (within myself) τοῦτο (this), τὸ (-) μὴ (not) πάλιν (again) ἐν (in) λύπῃ (grief) πρὸς (to) ὑμᾶς (you) ἐλθεῖν (to come).
2εἰ (If) γὰρ (for) ἐγὼ (I) λυπῶ (grieve) ὑμᾶς (you) καὶ (again), τίς (who) ὁ (-) εὐφραίνων (is gladdening) με (me), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ὁ (the one) λυπούμενος (being grieved) ἐξ (by) ἐμοῦ (me)?
3καὶ (And) ἔγραψα (I wrote) τοῦτο (this) αὐτὸ (same thing), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not), ἐλθὼν (having come), λύπην (grief) σχῶ (I might have) ἀφ’ (from those) ὧν (of whom) ἔδει (it behooves) με (me) χαίρειν (to rejoice), πεποιθὼς (trusting) ἐπὶ (in) πάντας (all) ὑμᾶς (you), ὅτι (that) ἡ (-) ἐμὴ (my) χαρὰ (joy) πάντων (of all) ὑμῶν (of you) ἐστιν (is).
4ἐκ (Out of) γὰρ (for) πολλῆς (much) θλίψεως (affliction) καὶ (and) συνοχῆς (anguish) καρδίας (of heart) ἔγραψα (I wrote) ὑμῖν (to you) διὰ (through) πολλῶν (many) δακρύων (tears), οὐχ (not) ἵνα (that) λυπηθῆτε (you might be grieved), ἀλλὰ (but) τὴν (the) ἀγάπην (love) ἵνα (that) γνῶτε (you might know) ἣν (that) ἔχω (I have) περισσοτέρως (more abundantly) εἰς (toward) ὑμᾶς (you).
5Εἰ (If) δέ (however) τις (anyone) λελύπηκεν (has caused grief), οὐκ (not) ἐμὲ (me) λελύπηκεν (has he grieved), ἀλλὰ (but) ἀπὸ (in) μέρους (part)— ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) ἐπιβαρῶ (I might put it too severely)— πάντας (all) ὑμᾶς (you).
6ἱκανὸν (Sufficient) τῷ (to) τοιούτῳ (such a one) ἡ (is the) ἐπιτιμία (punishment) αὕτη (this), ἡ (which is) ὑπὸ (by) τῶν (the) πλειόνων (majority),
7ὥστε (so that) τοὐναντίον (on the contrary) μᾶλλον (rather) ὑμᾶς (for you) χαρίσασθαι (to forgive) καὶ (and) παρακαλέσαι (to comfort him), μή (lest) πως (perhaps) τῇ (-) περισσοτέρᾳ (by more abundant) λύπῃ (sorrow) καταποθῇ (should be overwhelmed) ὁ (-) τοιοῦτος (such a one).
8διὸ (Therefore) παρακαλῶ (I exhort) ὑμᾶς (you) κυρῶσαι (to confirm) εἰς (toward) αὐτὸν (him) ἀγάπην (love).
9Εἰς (For) τοῦτο (this) γὰρ (indeed) καὶ (also) ἔγραψα (did I write), ἵνα (so that) γνῶ (I might know) τὴν (the) δοκιμὴν (proof) ὑμῶν (of you), εἰ (whether) εἰς (to) πάντα (everything) ὑπήκοοί (obedient) ἐστε (you are).
10ᾧ (To whomever) δέ (now) τι (anything) χαρίζεσθε (you forgive), κἀγώ (I also); καὶ (and) γὰρ (for) ἐγὼ (I), ὃ (to whom) κεχάρισμαι (I have forgiven), εἴ (if) τι (anything) κεχάρισμαι (I have forgiven), δι’ (it is for the sake of) ὑμᾶς (you) ἐν (in) προσώπῳ (the person) Χριστοῦ (of Christ),
11ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) πλεονεκτηθῶμεν (we should be outwitted) ὑπὸ (by) τοῦ (-) Σατανᾶ (Satan); οὐ (not) γὰρ (for) αὐτοῦ (of his) τὰ (-) νοήματα (schemes) ἀγνοοῦμεν (we are ignorant).
Triumph in Christ
12Ἐλθὼν (Having come) δὲ (now) εἰς (to) τὴν (-) Τρῳάδα (Troas) εἰς (for) τὸ (the) εὐαγγέλιον (gospel) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), καὶ (also) θύρας (a door) μοι (to me) ἀνεῳγμένης (having been opened) ἐν (in) Κυρίῳ (the Lord),
13οὐκ (not) ἔσχηκα (I had) ἄνεσιν (rest) τῷ (in the) πνεύματί (spirit) μου (of me), τῷ (in the) μὴ (not) εὑρεῖν (finding) με (my) Τίτον (Titus) τὸν (the) ἀδελφόν (brother) μου (of me); ἀλλὰ (instead), ἀποταξάμενος (having taken leave of) αὐτοῖς (them), ἐξῆλθον (I went out) εἰς (to) Μακεδονίαν (Macedonia).
14Τῷ (To) δὲ (however) Θεῷ (God) χάρις (be thanks), τῷ (the One) πάντοτε (always) θριαμβεύοντι (leading in triumph) ἡμᾶς (us) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) Χριστῷ (Christ), καὶ (and) τὴν (the) ὀσμὴν (fragrance) τῆς (of the) γνώσεως (knowledge) αὐτοῦ (of Him) φανεροῦντι (making manifest) δι’ (through) ἡμῶν (us) ἐν (in) παντὶ (every) τόπῳ (place).
15ὅτι (For) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) εὐωδία (a sweet perfume) ἐσμὲν (we are) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God) ἐν (in) τοῖς (those) σωζομένοις (being saved) καὶ (and) ἐν (in) τοῖς (those) ἀπολλυμένοις (perishing);
16οἷς (to one) μὲν (indeed) ὀσμὴ (an odor) ἐκ (from) θανάτου (death) εἰς (to) θάνατον (death), οἷς (to one) δὲ (now), ὀσμὴ (a fragrance) ἐκ (from) ζωῆς (life) εἰς (to) ζωήν (life). καὶ (And) πρὸς (for) ταῦτα (these things) τίς (who is) ἱκανός (sufficient)?
17Οὐ (Not) γάρ (for) ἐσμεν (we are), ὡς (like) οἱ (the) πολλοὶ (many), καπηλεύοντες (peddling) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God); ἀλλ’ (but) ὡς (as) ἐξ (of) εἰλικρινείας (sincerity), ἀλλ’ (but) ὡς (as) ἐκ (of) Θεοῦ (God), κατέναντι (before) Θεοῦ (God) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) λαλοῦμεν (we speak).
