1 Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James, To those who are called, loved by God the Father, and kept in Jesus Christ: Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James, To those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ: Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, <i>and</i> called: Jude, a bond-servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James, To those who are the called, beloved in God the Father, and kept for Jesus Christ: Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James, To those who have been called, who are loved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ:
2 Mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you. May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you. Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied. May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you. Mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance.
3 Beloved, although I made every effort to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt it necessary to write and urge you to contend earnestly for the faith entrusted once for all to the saints. Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort <i>you</i> that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith that was once for all <i>time</i> handed down to the saints. Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.
4 For certain men have crept in among you unnoticed— ungodly ones who were designated long ago for condemnation. They turn the grace of our God into a license for immorality, and they deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. For certain people have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into indecent behavior and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.
5 Although you are fully aware of this, I want to remind you that after Jesus had delivered His people out of the land of Egypt, He destroyed those who did not believe. Now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that Jesus, who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not. Now I want to remind you, though you know everything once <i>and</i> for all, that the Lord, after saving a people out of the land of Egypt, subsequently destroyed those who did not believe. Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord at one time delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe.
6 And the angels who did not stay within their own domain but abandoned their proper dwelling— these He has kept in eternal chains under darkness, bound for judgment on that great day. And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day— And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. And angels who did not keep their own domain but abandoned their proper dwelling place, <i>these</i> He has kept in eternal restraints under darkness for the judgment of the great day, And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.
7 In like manner, Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, who indulged in sexual immorality and pursued strange flesh, are on display as an example of those who sustain the punishment of eternal fire. just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire. Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, since they in the same way as these <i>angels</i> indulged in sexual perversion and went after strange flesh, are exhibited as an example in undergoing the punishment of eternal fire. In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.
8 Yet in the same way these dreamers defile their bodies, reject authority, and slander glorious beings. Yet in like manner these people also, relying on their dreams, defile the flesh, reject authority, and blaspheme the glorious ones. Likewise also these <i>filthy</i> dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. Yet in the same way these people also, dreaming, defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak abusively of <i>angelic</i> majesties. In the very same way, on the strength of their dreams these ungodly people pollute their own bodies, reject authority and heap abuse on celestial beings.
9 But even the archangel Michael, when he disputed with the devil over the body of Moses, did not presume to bring a slanderous charge against him, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!” But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, “The Lord rebuke you.” Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. But Michael the archangel, when he disputed with the devil and argued about the body of Moses, did not dare pronounce against him an abusive judgment, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!” But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not himself dare to condemn him for slander but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”
10 These men, however, slander what they do not understand, and like irrational animals, they will be destroyed by the things they do instinctively. But these people blaspheme all that they do not understand, and they are destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively. But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves. But these people disparage all the things that they do not understand; and all the things that they know by instinct, like unreasoning animals, by these things they are destroyed. Yet these people slander whatever they do not understand, and the very things they do understand by instinct—as irrational animals do—will destroy them.
11 Woe to them! They have traveled the path of Cain; they have rushed headlong into the error of Balaam; they have perished in Korah’s rebellion. Woe to them! For they walked in the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam’s error and perished in Korah’s rebellion. Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core. Woe to them! For they have gone the way of Cain, and for pay they have given themselves up to the error of Balaam, and perished in the rebellion of Korah. Woe to them! They have taken the way of Cain; they have rushed for profit into Balaam’s error; they have been destroyed in Korah’s rebellion.
12 These men are hidden reefs in your love feasts, shamelessly feasting with you but shepherding only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried along by the wind; fruitless trees in autumn, twice dead after being uprooted. These are hidden reefs at your love feasts, as they feast with you without fear, shepherds feeding themselves; waterless clouds, swept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted; These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds <i>they are</i> without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; These are the ones who are hidden reefs in your love feasts when they feast with you without fear, <i>like shepherds</i> caring <i>only</i> for themselves; clouds without water, carried along by winds; autumn trees without fruit, doubly dead, uprooted; These people are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm—shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted—twice dead.
13 They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever. wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved forever. 14 Enoch, the seventh from Adam, also prophesied about them: “Behold, the Lord is coming with myriads of His holy ones It was also about these that Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his holy ones, And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, <i>It was</i> also about these people <i>that</i> Enoch, <i>in the</i> seventh <i>generation</i> from Adam, prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord has come with many thousands of His holy ones, Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about them: “See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones
15 to execute judgment on everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of every ungodly act of wickedness and every harsh word spoken against Him by ungodly sinners.” to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.” To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard <i>speeches</i> which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly deeds which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.” to judge everyone, and to convict all of them of all the ungodly acts they have committed in their ungodliness, and of all the defiant words ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”
16 These men are discontented grumblers, following after their own lusts; their mouths spew arrogance; they flatter others for their own advantage. These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own sinful desires; they are loud-mouthed boasters, showing favoritism to gain advantage. These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling <i>words</i>, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage. These are grumblers, finding fault, following after their <i>own</i> lusts; they speak arrogantly, flattering people for the sake of <i>gaining an</i> advantage. These people are grumblers and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires; they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.
17 But you, beloved, remember what was foretold by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; But you, beloved, ought to remember the words that were spoken beforehand by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold.
18 when they said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow after their own ungodly desires.” They said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.” How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. that they were saying to you, “In the last time there will be mockers, following after their own ungodly lusts.” They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.”
19 These are the ones who cause divisions, who are worldly and devoid of the Spirit. It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit. These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit. These are the ones who cause divisions, worldly-minded, devoid of the Spirit. These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.
20 But you, beloved, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit,
21 keep yourselves in the love of God as you await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you eternal life. keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. keep yourselves in the love of God, looking forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life. keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.
22 And indeed, have mercy on those who doubt; And have mercy on those who doubt; And of some have compassion, making a difference: And have mercy on some, who are doubting; Be merciful to those who doubt;
23 save others by snatching them from the fire; and to still others show mercy tempered with fear, hating even the clothing stained by the flesh. save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh. 24 Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you unblemished in His glorious presence, with great joy— Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present <i>you</i> faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, Now to Him who is able to protect you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory, blameless with great joy, To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy—
25 to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority through Jesus Christ our Lord before all time, and now, and for all eternity.
