And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;1Ἔλεγεν δὲ παραβολὴν αὐτοῖς πρὸς τὸ δεῖν πάντοτε προσεύχεσθαι αὐτοὺς καὶ μὴ ἐνκακεῖν
Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:2λέγων Κριτής τις ἦν ἔν τινι πόλει τὸν Θεὸν μὴ φοβούμενος καὶ ἄνθρωπον μὴ ἐντρεπόμενος
And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.3χήρα δὲ ἦν ἐν τῇ πόλει ἐκείνῃ καὶ ἤρχετο πρὸς αὐτὸν λέγουσα Ἐκδίκησόν με ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀντιδίκου μου
And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;4Καὶ οὐκ ἤθελεν ἐπὶ χρόνον μετὰ ταῦτα δὲ εἶπεν ἐν ἑαυτῷ Εἰ καὶ τὸν Θεὸν οὐ φοβοῦμαι οὐδὲ ἄνθρωπον ἐντρέπομαι
Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.5διά γε τὸ παρέχειν μοι κόπον τὴν χήραν ταύτην ἐκδικήσω αὐτήν ἵνα μὴ εἰς τέλος ἐρχομένη ὑπωπιάζῃ με
And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.6Εἶπεν δὲ Κύριος Ἀκούσατε τί κριτὴς τῆς ἀδικίας λέγει
And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?7 δὲ Θεὸς οὐ μὴ ποιήσῃ τὴν ἐκδίκησιν τῶν ἐκλεκτῶν αὐτοῦ τῶν βοώντων αὐτῷ ἡμέρας καὶ νυκτός καὶ μακροθυμεῖ ἐπ’ αὐτοῖς
I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?8λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι ποιήσει τὴν ἐκδίκησιν αὐτῶν ἐν τάχει πλὴν Υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐλθὼν ἆρα εὑρήσει τὴν πίστιν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς
And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:9Εἶπεν δὲ καὶ πρός τινας τοὺς πεποιθότας ἐφ’ ἑαυτοῖς ὅτι εἰσὶν δίκαιοι καὶ ἐξουθενοῦντας τοὺς λοιποὺς τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην
Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.10Ἄνθρωποι δύο ἀνέβησαν εἰς τὸ ἱερὸν προσεύξασθαι εἷς Φαρισαῖος καὶ ἕτερος τελώνης
The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.11 Φαρισαῖος σταθεὶς ταῦτα «πρὸς ἑαυτὸν» προσηύχετο Θεός εὐχαριστῶ σοι ὅτι οὐκ εἰμὶ ὥσπερ οἱ λοιποὶ τῶν ἀνθρώπων ἅρπαγες ἄδικοι μοιχοί καὶ ὡς οὗτος τελώνης
I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.12νηστεύω δὶς τοῦ σαββάτου ἀποδεκατῶ πάντα ὅσα κτῶμαι
And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.13 δὲ τελώνης μακρόθεν ἑστὼς οὐκ ἤθελεν οὐδὲ τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς ἐπᾶραι εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν ἀλλ’ ἔτυπτεν τὸ στῆθος αὐτοῦ λέγων Θεός ἱλάσθητί μοι τῷ ἁμαρτωλῷ
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.14λέγω ὑμῖν κατέβη οὗτος δεδικαιωμένος εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ παρ’ ἐκεῖνον ὅτι πᾶς ὑψῶν ἑαυτὸν ταπεινωθήσεται δὲ ταπεινῶν ἑαυτὸν ὑψωθήσεται
And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them.15Προσέφερον δὲ αὐτῷ καὶ τὰ βρέφη ἵνα αὐτῶν ἅπτηται ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ μαθηταὶ ἐπετίμων αὐτοῖς
But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.16 δὲ Ἰησοῦς προσεκαλέσατο αὐτὰ λέγων Ἄφετε τὰ παιδία ἔρχεσθαι πρός με καὶ μὴ κωλύετε αὐτά τῶν γὰρ τοιούτων ἐστὶν βασιλεία τοῦ Θεοῦ
Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.17ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὃς ἂν μὴ δέξηται τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ ὡς παιδίον οὐ μὴ εἰσέλθῃ εἰς αὐτήν
And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?18Καὶ ἐπηρώτησέν τις αὐτὸν ἄρχων λέγων Διδάσκαλε ἀγαθέ τί ποιήσας ζωὴν αἰώνιον κληρονομήσω
And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.19Εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ Ἰησοῦς Τί με λέγεις ἀγαθόν οὐδεὶς ἀγαθὸς εἰ μὴ εἷς Θεός
Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.20τὰς ἐντολὰς οἶδας Μὴ μοιχεύσῃς Μὴ φονεύσῃς Μὴ κλέψῃς Μὴ ψευδομαρτυρήσῃς Τίμα τὸν πατέρα σου καὶ τὴν μητέρα
And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.21 δὲ εἶπεν Ταῦτα πάντα ἐφύλαξα ἐκ νεότητος ‹μου›
Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.22Ἀκούσας δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ἔτι ἕν σοι λείπει πάντα ὅσα ἔχεις πώλησον καὶ διάδος πτωχοῖς καὶ ἕξεις θησαυρὸν ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς καὶ δεῦρο ἀκολούθει μοι
And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.23 δὲ ἀκούσας ταῦτα περίλυπος ἐγενήθη ἦν γὰρ πλούσιος σφόδρα
And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!24Ἰδὼν δὲ αὐτὸν Ἰησοῦς [περίλυπον γενόμενον] εἶπεν Πῶς δυσκόλως οἱ τὰ χρήματα ἔχοντες εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ εἰσπορεύονται
For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.25εὐκοπώτερον γάρ ἐστιν κάμηλον διὰ τρήματος βελόνης εἰσελθεῖν πλούσιον εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ εἰσελθεῖν
And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved?26Εἶπαν δὲ οἱ ἀκούσαντες Καὶ τίς δύναται σωθῆναι
And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.27 δὲ εἶπεν Τὰ ἀδύνατα παρὰ ἀνθρώποις δυνατὰ παρὰ τῷ Θεῷ ἐστιν
Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee.28Εἶπεν δὲ Πέτρος Ἰδοὺ ἡμεῖς ἀφέντες τὰ ἴδια ἠκολουθήσαμέν σοι
And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake,29 δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι οὐδείς ἐστιν ὃς ἀφῆκεν οἰκίαν γυναῖκα ἀδελφοὺς γονεῖς τέκνα ἕνεκεν τῆς βασιλείας τοῦ Θεοῦ
Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.30ὃς οὐχὶ μὴ ἀπολάβῃ* πολλαπλασίονα ἐν τῷ καιρῷ τούτῳ καὶ ἐν τῷ αἰῶνι τῷ ἐρχομένῳ ζωὴν αἰώνιον
Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.31Παραλαβὼν δὲ τοὺς δώδεκα εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς Ἰδοὺ ἀναβαίνομεν εἰς Ἰερουσαλήμ καὶ τελεσθήσεται πάντα τὰ γεγραμμένα διὰ τῶν προφητῶν τῷ Υἱῷ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου
For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on:32παραδοθήσεται γὰρ τοῖς ἔθνεσιν καὶ ἐμπαιχθήσεται καὶ ὑβρισθήσεται καὶ ἐμπτυσθήσεται
And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.33καὶ μαστιγώσαντες ἀποκτενοῦσιν αὐτόν καὶ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ τρίτῃ ἀναστήσεται
And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.34Καὶ αὐτοὶ οὐδὲν τούτων συνῆκαν καὶ ἦν τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο κεκρυμμένον ἀπ’ αὐτῶν καὶ οὐκ ἐγίνωσκον τὰ λεγόμενα
And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging:35Ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ ἐγγίζειν αὐτὸν εἰς Ἰεριχὼ τυφλός τις ἐκάθητο παρὰ τὴν ὁδὸν ἐπαιτῶν
And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.36ἀκούσας δὲ ὄχλου διαπορευομένου ἐπυνθάνετο τί εἴη τοῦτο
And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by.37Ἀπήγγειλαν δὲ αὐτῷ ὅτι Ἰησοῦς Ναζωραῖος παρέρχεται
And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.38Καὶ ἐβόησεν λέγων Ἰησοῦ υἱὲ Δαυίδ ἐλέησόν με
And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.39Καὶ οἱ προάγοντες ἐπετίμων αὐτῷ ἵνα σιγήσῃ αὐτὸς δὲ πολλῷ μᾶλλον ἔκραζεν Υἱὲ Δαυίδ ἐλέησόν με
And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him,40Σταθεὶς δὲ Ἰησοῦς ἐκέλευσεν αὐτὸν ἀχθῆναι πρὸς αὐτόν ἐγγίσαντος δὲ αὐτοῦ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτόν
Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.41Τί σοι θέλεις ποιήσω δὲ εἶπεν Κύριε ἵνα ἀναβλέψω
And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.42Καὶ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ἀνάβλεψον πίστις σου σέσωκέν σε
And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.43καὶ παραχρῆμα ἀνέβλεψεν καὶ ἠκολούθει αὐτῷ δοξάζων τὸν Θεόν καὶ πᾶς λαὸς ἰδὼν ἔδωκεν αἶνον τῷ Θεῷ
