1After this, the Lord appointed 70 other disciples and was about to send them ahead of him in pairs to every town and place that he intended to go.

1Μετὰ δὲ ταῦτα ἀνέδειξεν ὁ Κύριος ‹καὶ› ἑτέρους ἑβδομήκοντα ‹δύο› καὶ ἀπέστειλεν αὐτοὺς ἀνὰ δύο ‹δύο› πρὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ εἰς πᾶσαν πόλιν καὶ τόπον οὗ ἤμελλεν αὐτὸς ἔρχεσθαι

2So he instructed them, "The harvest is vast, but the workers are few. So ask the Lord of the harvest to send workers out into his harvest.

2ἔλεγεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς Ὁ μὲν θερισμὸς πολύς οἱ δὲ ἐργάται ὀλίγοι δεήθητε οὖν τοῦ Κυρίου τοῦ θερισμοῦ ὅπως ἐργάτας ἐκβάλῃ εἰς τὸν θερισμὸν αὐτοῦ

3Get going! See, I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.

3Ὑπάγετε ἰδοὺ ἀποστέλλω ὑμᾶς ὡς ἄρνας ἐν μέσῳ λύκων

4Don't carry a wallet, a traveling bag, or sandals, and don't greet anyone on the way.

4μὴ βαστάζετε βαλλάντιον μὴ πήραν μὴ ὑποδήματα καὶ μηδένα κατὰ τὴν ὁδὸν ἀσπάσησθε

5"Whatever house you go into, first say, 'May there be peace in this house.'

5Εἰς ἣν δ’ ἂν εἰσέλθητε οἰκίαν πρῶτον λέγετε Εἰρήνη τῷ οἴκῳ τούτῳ

6If a peaceful person lives there, your greeting of peace will remain with him. But if that's not the case, your greeting will come back to you.

6καὶ ἐὰν ἐκεῖ ᾖ υἱὸς εἰρήνης ἐπαναπαήσεται ἐπ’ αὐτὸν ἡ εἰρήνη ὑμῶν εἰ δὲ μή¦γε ἐφ’ ὑμᾶς ἀνακάμψει

7Stay with the same family, eating and drinking whatever they provide, because the worker deserves his pay. Don't move from house to house.

7ἐν αὐτῇ δὲ τῇ οἰκίᾳ μένετε ἐσθίοντες* καὶ πίνοντες τὰ παρ’ αὐτῶν ἄξιος γὰρ ὁ ἐργάτης τοῦ μισθοῦ αὐτοῦ μὴ μεταβαίνετε ἐξ οἰκίας εἰς οἰκίαν

8"Whenever you go into a town and the people welcome you, eat whatever they serve you,

8Καὶ εἰς ἣν ἂν πόλιν εἰσέρχησθε καὶ δέχωνται ὑμᾶς ἐσθίετε τὰ παρατιθέμενα ὑμῖν

9heal the sick that are there, and tell them, 'The kingdom of God is near you!'

9καὶ θεραπεύετε τοὺς ἐν αὐτῇ ἀσθενεῖς καὶ λέγετε αὐτοῖς Ἤγγικεν ἐφ’ ὑμᾶς ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ Θεοῦ

10But whenever you go into a town and people don't welcome you, go out into its streets and say,

10Εἰς ἣν δ’ ἂν πόλιν εἰσέλθητε καὶ μὴ δέχωνται ὑμᾶς ἐξελθόντες εἰς τὰς πλατείας αὐτῆς εἴπατε

11We're wiping off your town's dust that clings to our feet in protest against you! But realize this: the kingdom of God is near!'

11Καὶ τὸν κονιορτὸν τὸν κολληθέντα ἡμῖν ἐκ τῆς πόλεως ὑμῶν εἰς τοὺς πόδας ἀπομασσόμεθα ὑμῖν πλὴν τοῦτο γινώσκετε ὅτι ἤγγικεν ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ Θεοῦ

12I tell you, on the last day it will be easier for Sodom than for that town!"

12λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι Σοδόμοις ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἀνεκτότερον ἔσται ἢ τῇ πόλει ἐκείνῃ

13"How terrible it will be for you, Chorazin! How terrible it will be for you, Bethsaida! If the miracles that happened in you had taken place in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.

13Οὐαί σοι Χοραζίν οὐαί σοι Βηθσαϊδά ὅτι εἰ ἐν Τύρῳ καὶ Σιδῶνι ἐγενήθησαν αἱ δυνάμεις αἱ γενόμεναι ἐν ὑμῖν πάλαι ἂν ἐν σάκκῳ καὶ σποδῷ καθήμενοι μετενόησαν

14It will be easier for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you!

14πλὴν Τύρῳ καὶ Σιδῶνι ἀνεκτότερον ἔσται ἐν τῇ κρίσει ἢ ὑμῖν

15And you, Capernaum! You won't be lifted up to heaven, will you? You'll go down to Hell!

15καὶ σύ Καφαρναούμ μὴ ἕως οὐρανοῦ ὑψωθήσῃ ἕως τοῦ ᾅδου καταβήσῃ

16The person who listens to you listens to me, and the person who rejects you rejects me. The person who rejects me rejects the one who sent me."

16Ὁ ἀκούων ὑμῶν ἐμοῦ ἀκούει καὶ ὁ ἀθετῶν ὑμᾶς ἐμὲ ἀθετεῖ ὁ δὲ ἐμὲ ἀθετῶν ἀθετεῖ τὸν ἀποστείλαντά με

17The 70 disciples came back and joyously reported, "Lord, even the demons are submitting to us in your name!"

17Ὑπέστρεψαν δὲ οἱ ἑβδομήκοντα ‹δύο› μετὰ χαρᾶς λέγοντες Κύριε καὶ τὰ δαιμόνια ὑποτάσσεται ἡμῖν ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί σου

18He told them, "I watched Satan falling from heaven like lightning.

18Εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς Ἐθεώρουν τὸν Σατανᾶν ὡς ἀστραπὴν ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ πεσόντα

19Look! I have given you the authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to destroy all the enemy's power, and nothing will ever hurt you.

19ἰδοὺ δέδωκα ὑμῖν τὴν ἐξουσίαν τοῦ πατεῖν ἐπάνω ὄφεων καὶ σκορπίων καὶ ἐπὶ πᾶσαν τὴν δύναμιν τοῦ ἐχθροῦ καὶ οὐδὲν ὑμᾶς οὐ μὴ ἀδικήσῃ*

20However, stop rejoicing because the spirits are submitting to you. Instead, rejoice because your names are written in heaven."

20πλὴν ἐν τούτῳ μὴ χαίρετε ὅτι τὰ πνεύματα ὑμῖν ὑποτάσσεται χαίρετε δὲ ὅτι τὰ ὀνόματα ὑμῶν ἐνγέγραπται ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς

21At that moment, the Holy Spirit made Jesus extremely joyful, so Jesus said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from wise and intelligent people and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, because this is what was pleasing to you.

21Ἐν αὐτῇ τῇ ὥρᾳ ἠγαλλιάσατο [ἐν] τῷ Πνεύματι τῷ Ἁγίῳ καὶ εἶπεν Ἐξομολογοῦμαί σοι Πάτερ Κύριε τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ τῆς γῆς ὅτι ἀπέκρυψας ταῦτα ἀπὸ σοφῶν καὶ συνετῶν καὶ ἀπεκάλυψας αὐτὰ νηπίοις ναί ὁ Πατήρ ὅτι οὕτως εὐδοκία ἐγένετο ἔμπροσθέν σου

22All things have been entrusted to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and the person to whom the Son chooses to reveal him."

22Πάντα μοι παρεδόθη ὑπὸ τοῦ Πατρός μου καὶ οὐδεὶς γινώσκει τίς ἐστιν ὁ Υἱὸς εἰ μὴ ὁ Πατήρ καὶ τίς ἐστιν ὁ Πατὴρ εἰ μὴ ὁ Υἱὸς καὶ ᾧ ἐὰν βούληται ὁ Υἱὸς ἀποκαλύψαι

23Then turning to his disciples in private, he told them, "How blessed are the eyes that see what you see!

23Καὶ στραφεὶς πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς κατ’ ἰδίαν εἶπεν Μακάριοι οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ οἱ βλέποντες ἃ βλέπετε

24Because I tell you, many prophets and kings wanted to see the things you see but didn't see them, and to hear the things you hear but didn't hear them."

24λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν ὅτι πολλοὶ προφῆται καὶ βασιλεῖς ἠθέλησαν ἰδεῖν ἃ ὑμεῖς βλέπετε καὶ οὐκ εἶδαν καὶ ἀκοῦσαι ἃ ἀκούετε καὶ οὐκ ἤκουσαν

25Just then an expert in the Law stood up to test Jesus. He asked, "Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"

25Καὶ ἰδοὺ νομικός τις ἀνέστη ἐκπειράζων αὐτὸν λέγων Διδάσκαλε τί ποιήσας ζωὴν αἰώνιον κληρονομήσω

26Jesus answered him, "What is written in the Law? What do you read there?"

26Ὁ δὲ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτόν Ἐν τῷ νόμῳ τί γέγραπται πῶς ἀναγινώσκεις

27He answered, "You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind. And you must love your neighbor as yourself."

27Ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν Ἀγαπήσεις Κύριον τὸν Θεόν σου ἐξ ὅλης τῆς καρδίας σου καὶ ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ ψυχῇ σου καὶ ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ ἰσχύϊ σου καὶ ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ διανοίᾳ σου καὶ Τὸν πλησίον σου ὡς σεαυτόν

28Jesus told him, "You have answered correctly. 'Do this, and you will live.'"

28Εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ Ὀρθῶς ἀπεκρίθης τοῦτο ποίει καὶ ζήσῃ

29But the man wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"

29Ὁ δὲ θέλων δικαιῶσαι ἑαυτὸν εἶπεν πρὸς τὸν Ἰησοῦν Καὶ τίς ἐστίν μου πλησίον

30After careful consideration, Jesus replied, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho when he fell into the hands of bandits. They stripped him, beat him, and went away, leaving him half dead.

30Ὑπολαβὼν ‹δὲ› ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν Ἄνθρωπός τις κατέβαινεν ἀπὸ Ἰερουσαλὴμ εἰς Ἰεριχὼ καὶ λῃσταῖς περιέπεσεν οἳ καὶ ἐκδύσαντες αὐτὸν καὶ πληγὰς ἐπιθέντες ἀπῆλθον ἀφέντες ἡμιθανῆ

31By chance, a priest was traveling along that road. When he saw the man, he went by on the other side.

31Κατὰ συγκυρίαν δὲ ἱερεύς τις κατέβαινεν ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ ἐκείνῃ καὶ ἰδὼν αὐτὸν ἀντιπαρῆλθεν

32Similarly, a descendant of Levi came to that place. When he saw the man, he also went by on the other side.

32Ὁμοίως δὲ καὶ Λευίτης [γενόμενος] κατὰ τὸν τόπον ἐλθὼν καὶ ἰδὼν ἀντιπαρῆλθεν

33But as he was traveling along, a Samaritan came across the man. When the Samaritan saw him, he was moved with compassion.

33Σαμαρίτης δέ τις ὁδεύων ἦλθεν κατ’ αὐτὸν καὶ ἰδὼν ἐσπλαγχνίσθη

34He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

34καὶ προσελθὼν κατέδησεν τὰ τραύματα αὐτοῦ ἐπιχέων ἔλαιον καὶ οἶνον ἐπιβιβάσας δὲ αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τὸ ἴδιον κτῆνος ἤγαγεν αὐτὸν εἰς πανδοχεῖον καὶ ἐπεμελήθη αὐτοῦ

35The next day, he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, 'Take good care of him. If you spend more than that, I'll repay you when I come back.'

35Καὶ ἐπὶ τὴν αὔριον ἐκβαλὼν «δύο δηνάρια» ἔδωκεν τῷ πανδοχεῖ καὶ εἶπεν Ἐπιμελήθητι αὐτοῦ καὶ ὅ τι ἂν προσδαπανήσῃς ἐγὼ ἐν τῷ ἐπανέρχεσθαί με ἀποδώσω σοι

36"Of these three men, who do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the bandits?"

36Τίς τούτων τῶν τριῶν πλησίον δοκεῖ σοι γεγονέναι τοῦ ἐμπεσόντος εἰς τοὺς λῃστάς

37He said, "The one who showed mercy to him." Jesus told him, "Go and do what he did."

37Ὁ δὲ εἶπεν Ὁ ποιήσας τὸ ἔλεος μετ’ αὐτοῦ Εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς Πορεύου καὶ σὺ ποίει ὁμοίως

38Now as they were traveling along, Jesus went into a village. A woman named Martha welcomed him into her home.

38Ἐν δὲ τῷ πορεύεσθαι αὐτοὺς αὐτὸς εἰσῆλθεν εἰς κώμην τινά γυνὴ δέ τις ὀνόματι Μάρθα ὑπεδέξατο αὐτὸν 〈εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν〉

39She had a sister named Mary, who sat down at the Lord's feet and kept listening to what he was saying.

39καὶ τῇδε ἦν ἀδελφὴ καλουμένη Μαριάμ ἣ καὶ παρακαθεσθεῖσα πρὸς τοὺς πόδας τοῦ Κυρίου ἤκουεν τὸν λόγον αὐτοῦ

40But Martha was worrying about all the things she had to do, so she came to him and asked, "Lord, you do care that my sister has left me to do the work all by myself, don't you? Then tell her to help me."

40ἡ δὲ Μάρθα περιεσπᾶτο περὶ πολλὴν διακονίαν ἐπιστᾶσα δὲ εἶπεν Κύριε οὐ μέλει σοι ὅτι ἡ ἀδελφή μου μόνην με κατέλειπεν διακονεῖν εἰπὲ* οὖν αὐτῇ ἵνα μοι συναντιλάβηται

41The Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha! You worry and fuss about a lot of things.

41Ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῇ ὁ Κύριος Μάρθα Μάρθα μεριμνᾷς καὶ θορυβάζῃ περὶ πολλά

42But there's only one thing you need. Mary has chosen what is better, and it is not to be taken away from her."

42ὀλίγων δέ ἐστιν χρεία ἢ ἑνός Μαριὰμ γὰρ τὴν ἀγαθὴν μερίδα ἐξελέξατο ἥτις οὐκ ἀφαιρεθήσεται αὐτῆς
