The Man of Lawlessness
1Ἐρωτῶμεν (We implore) δὲ (now) ὑμᾶς (you), ἀδελφοί (brothers), ὑπὲρ (by) τῆς (the) παρουσίας (coming) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ) καὶ (and) ἡμῶν (our) ἐπισυναγωγῆς (gathering together) ἐπ’ (unto) αὐτόν (Him),
2εἰς (for) τὸ (-) μὴ (not) ταχέως (quickly) σαλευθῆναι (to be shaken) ὑμᾶς (you) ἀπὸ (in) τοῦ (-) νοὸς (mind) μηδὲ (nor) θροεῖσθαι (to be troubled), μήτε (neither) διὰ (by) πνεύματος (spirit), μήτε (nor) διὰ (by) λόγου (word), μήτε (nor) δι’ (by) ἐπιστολῆς (letter), ὡς (as if) δι’ (by) ἡμῶν (us), ὡς (as) ὅτι (that) ἐνέστηκεν (is present) ἡ (the) ἡμέρα (day) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord).
3μή (No) τις (one) ὑμᾶς (you) ἐξαπατήσῃ (should deceive) κατὰ (in) μηδένα (not one) τρόπον (way), ὅτι (because it is) ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not until) ἔλθῃ (shall have come) ἡ (the) ἀποστασία (apostasy) πρῶτον (first), καὶ (and) ἀποκαλυφθῇ (shall have been revealed) ὁ (the) ἄνθρωπος (man) τῆς (-) ἀνομίας (of lawlessness), ὁ (the) υἱὸς (son) τῆς (-) ἀπωλείας (of destruction),
4ὁ (the one) ἀντικείμενος (opposing) καὶ (and) ὑπεραιρόμενος (exalting himself) ἐπὶ (above) πάντα (every) λεγόμενον (so-called) Θεὸν (god) ἢ (or) σέβασμα (object of worship), ὥστε (so as for) αὐτὸν (him) εἰς (in) τὸν (the) ναὸν (temple) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) καθίσαι (to sit down), ἀποδεικνύντα (setting forth) ἑαυτὸν (he himself) ὅτι (that) ἔστιν (is) Θεός (God).
5Οὐ (Not) μνημονεύετε (do you remember) ὅτι (that), ἔτι (yet) ὢν (being) πρὸς (with) ὑμᾶς (you), ταῦτα (these things) ἔλεγον (I was saying) ὑμῖν (to you)?
6καὶ (And) νῦν (now) τὸ (that which) κατέχον (is restraining), οἴδατε (you know), εἰς (for) τὸ (-) ἀποκαλυφθῆναι (to be revealed) αὐτὸν (him) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) ἑαυτοῦ* (his) καιρῷ (time).
7τὸ (The) γὰρ (for) μυστήριον (mystery) ἤδη (already) ἐνεργεῖται (is working) τῆς (-) ἀνομίας (of lawlessness); μόνον (only there is) ὁ (the one) κατέχων (restraining it) ἄρτι (at present) ἕως (until) ἐκ (out of) μέσου (the midst) γένηται (he might be gone).
8καὶ (And) τότε (then) ἀποκαλυφθήσεται (will be revealed) ὁ (the) ἄνομος (lawless one), ὃν (whom) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἀνελεῖ (will slay) τῷ (with the) πνεύματι (breath) τοῦ (of the) στόματος (mouth) αὐτοῦ (of Him) καὶ (and) καταργήσει (will annul) τῇ (by the) ἐπιφανείᾳ (appearing) τῆς (of the) παρουσίας (coming) αὐτοῦ (of Him),
9οὗ (whose) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (-) παρουσία (coming), κατ’ (according to) ἐνέργειαν (the working) τοῦ (-) Σατανᾶ (of Satan), ἐν (in) πάσῃ (every) δυνάμει (power), καὶ (and) σημείοις (in signs), καὶ (and) τέρασιν (in wonders) ψεύδους (of falsehood),
10καὶ (and) ἐν (in) πάσῃ (every) ἀπάτῃ (deceit) ἀδικίας (of wickedness) τοῖς (unto those) ἀπολλυμένοις (perishing), ἀνθ’ (in return for) ὧν (which) τὴν (the) ἀγάπην (love) τῆς (of the) ἀληθείας (truth) οὐκ (not) ἐδέξαντο (they received), εἰς (in order for) τὸ (-) σωθῆναι (to be saved) αὐτούς (them).
11καὶ (And) διὰ (because of) τοῦτο (this), πέμπει (will send) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἐνέργειαν (a working) πλάνης (of delusion), εἰς (for) τὸ (-) πιστεῦσαι (to believe) αὐτοὺς (them) τῷ (what) ψεύδει (is false),
12ἵνα (in order that) κριθῶσιν (should be judged) πάντες (all) οἱ (those) μὴ (not) πιστεύσαντες (having believed) τῇ (the) ἀληθείᾳ (truth), ἀλλὰ (but) εὐδοκήσαντες (having delighted) τῇ (-) ἀδικίᾳ (in unrighteousness).

13Ἡμεῖς (We) δὲ (however) ὀφείλομεν (ought) εὐχαριστεῖν (to give thanks) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God) πάντοτε (always) περὶ (concerning) ὑμῶν (you), ἀδελφοὶ (brothers) ἠγαπημένοι (beloved) ὑπὸ (by) Κυρίου (the Lord), ὅτι (that) εἵλατο (has chosen) ὑμᾶς (you) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἀπ᾽‿ (from) ἀρχῆς (the beginning),a εἰς (unto) σωτηρίαν (salvation) ἐν (in) ἁγιασμῷ (the sanctification) Πνεύματος (of the Spirit), καὶ (and) πίστει (by faith) ἀληθείας (of the truth);
14εἰς (to) ὃ (this) καὶ (also) ἐκάλεσεν (He called) ὑμᾶς (you), διὰ (through) τοῦ (the) εὐαγγελίου (gospel) ἡμῶν (of us), εἰς (to) περιποίησιν (the obtaining) δόξης (of the glory) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ).
15Ἄρα (So) οὖν (then), ἀδελφοί (brothers), στήκετε (stand firm) καὶ (and) κρατεῖτε (hold fast) τὰς (to the) παραδόσεις (traditions) ἃς (that) ἐδιδάχθητε (you were taught), εἴτε (whether) διὰ (by) λόγου (word), εἴτε (or) δι’ (by) ἐπιστολῆς (letter) ἡμῶν (from us).
16Αὐτὸς (Himself) δὲ (now) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) Χριστὸς (Christ), καὶ (and) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God), ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) ἡμῶν (of us), ὁ (the One) ἀγαπήσας (having loved) ἡμᾶς (us) καὶ (and) δοὺς (having given us) παράκλησιν (comfort) αἰωνίαν (eternal) καὶ (and) ἐλπίδα (hope) ἀγαθὴν (good) ἐν (by) χάριτι (grace),
17παρακαλέσαι (may He encourage) ὑμῶν (your) τὰς (-) καρδίας (hearts) καὶ (and) στηρίξαι (may He strengthen them) ἐν (in) παντὶ (every) ἔργῳ (work) καὶ (and) λόγῳ (word) ἀγαθῷ (good).
