Jesus Heals a Paralytic
(Mark 2:1–12; Luke 5:17–26)
1 Καὶ (And) ἐμβὰς (having entered) εἰς (into) πλοῖον (a boat) διεπέρασεν (He crossed over), καὶ (and) ἦλθεν (He came) εἰς (into) τὴν (His) ἰδίαν (own) πόλιν (city).
2 Καὶ (And) ἰδοὺ (behold) προσέφερον (they were bringing) αὐτῷ (to Him) παραλυτικὸν (a paralytic) ἐπὶ (on) κλίνης (a bed) βεβλημένον (lying). καὶ (And) ἰδὼν (having seen) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) τὴν (the) πίστιν (faith) αὐτῶν (of them) εἶπεν (He said) τῷ (to the) παραλυτικῷ (paralytic)· Θάρσει (Take courage), τέκνον (child), ἀφίενταί (are forgiven) σου (of you) αἱ (the) ἁμαρτίαι (sins).
3 Καὶ (And) ἰδού (behold) τινες (some) τῶν (of the) γραμματέων (scribes) εἶπαν (said) ἐν (to) ἑαυτοῖς (themselves)· Οὗτος (This One) βλασφημεῖ (blasphemes).
4 Καὶ (And) εἰδὼς (having known) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) τὰς (the) ἐνθυμήσεις (thoughts) αὐτῶν (of them) εἶπεν (said)· Ἵνα‿ (So that) τί (why) ἐνθυμεῖσθε (do you⁺ think) πονηρὰ (evil) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) καρδίαις (hearts) ὑμῶν (of you⁺)?
5 τί (Which) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (is) εὐκοπώτερον (easier), εἰπεῖν (to say)· Ἀφίενταί (Are forgiven) σου (of you) αἱ (the) ἁμαρτίαι (sins), ἢ (or) εἰπεῖν (to say)· Ἔγειρε (Arise) καὶ (and) περιπάτει (walk)?
6 ἵνα (So that) δὲ (however) εἰδῆτε (you⁺ may know) ὅτι (that) ἐξουσίαν (authority) ἔχει (has) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth) ἀφιέναι (to forgive) ἁμαρτίας (sins)— τότε (Then) λέγει (He says) τῷ (to the) παραλυτικῷ (paralytic)· Ἐγερθεὶς (Having arisen) ἆρόν (take up) σου (your) τὴν (-) κλίνην (mat) καὶ (and) ὕπαγε (go) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) οἶκόν (house) σου (of you).
7 καὶ (And) ἐγερθεὶς (having arisen) ἀπῆλθεν (he went away) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) οἶκον (house) αὐτοῦ (of him).
8 Ἰδόντες (Having seen) δὲ (now) οἱ (the) ὄχλοι (crowds) ἐφοβήθησαν (feared) καὶ (and) ἐδόξασαν (glorified) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God) τὸν (the One) δόντα (having given) ἐξουσίαν (authority) τοιαύτην (such) τοῖς (-) ἀνθρώποις (to men).

11 καὶ (And) ἰδόντες (having seen) οἱ (the) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees) ἔλεγον (were saying) τοῖς (to) μαθηταῖς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him)· Διὰ (Because of) τί (why) μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) τελωνῶν (tax collectors) καὶ (and) ἁμαρτωλῶν (sinners) ἐσθίει (eats) ὁ (the) διδάσκαλος (Teacher) ὑμῶν (of you⁺)?
12 Ὁ (-) δὲ (But) ἀκούσας (having heard) εἶπεν (He said)· Οὐ (Not) χρείαν (need) ἔχουσιν (have) οἱ (those) ἰσχύοντες (being strong) ἰατροῦ (of a physician) ἀλλ’ (but) οἱ (those) κακῶς (ill) ἔχοντες (being).
13 πορευθέντες (Having gone) δὲ (however) μάθετε (learn) τί (what) ἐστιν (is)· Ἔλεος (Mercy) θέλω (I desire) καὶ (and) οὐ (not) θυσίαν (sacrifice)· οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) ἦλθον (I came) καλέσαι (to call) δικαίους (the righteous) ἀλλὰ (but) ἁμαρτωλούς (sinners).

17 Οὐδὲ (Nor) βάλλουσιν (do they put) οἶνον (wine) νέον (new) εἰς (into) ἀσκοὺς (wineskins) παλαιούς (old)· εἰ (if) δὲ (now) μήγε (otherwise), ῥήγνυνται (are burst) οἱ (the) ἀσκοί (wineskins), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) οἶνος (wine) ἐκχεῖται (is poured out) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἀσκοὶ (wineskins) ἀπόλλυνται (are destroyed)· ἀλλὰ (But) βάλλουσιν (they put) οἶνον (wine) νέον (new) εἰς (into) ἀσκοὺς (wineskins) καινούς (new), καὶ (and) ἀμφότεροι (both) συντηροῦνται (are preserved).

22 Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) στραφεὶς (having turned) καὶ (and) ἰδὼν (having seen) αὐτὴν (her) εἶπεν (said)· Θάρσει (Take courage), θύγατερ (daughter)· ἡ (the) πίστις (faith) σου (of you) σέσωκέν (has saved) σε (you). καὶ (And) ἐσώθη (was saved) ἡ (the) γυνὴ (woman) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (-) ὥρας (hour) ἐκείνης (that).

25 Ὅτε (When) δὲ (now) ἐξεβλήθη (was put outside) ὁ (the) ὄχλος (crowd), εἰσελθὼν (having entered) ἐκράτησεν (He took hold of) τῆς (the) χειρὸς (hand) αὐτῆς (of her), καὶ (and) ἠγέρθη (arose) τὸ (the) κοράσιον (girl).
26 καὶ (And) ἐξῆλθεν (went out) ἡ (the) φήμη (report) αὕτη (this) εἰς (into) ὅλην (all) τὴν (-) γῆν (land) ἐκείνην (that).

31 οἱ (-) δὲ (But) ἐξελθόντες (having gone out) διεφήμισαν (they reported) αὐτὸν (about Him) ἐν (in) ὅλῃ (all) τῇ (-) γῇ (land) ἐκείνῃ (that).
32 Αὐτῶν (In their) δὲ (now) ἐξερχομένων (going out), ἰδοὺ (behold) προσήνεγκαν (they brought) αὐτῷ (to Him) ἄνθρωπον (a man) κωφὸν (mute) δαιμονιζόμενον (possessed by a demon).
33 καὶ (And) ἐκβληθέντος (having been cast out) τοῦ (the) δαιμονίου (demon) ἐλάλησεν (spoke) ὁ (the) κωφός (mute man). καὶ (And) ἐθαύμασαν (marveled) οἱ (the) ὄχλοι (crowds) λέγοντες (saying)· Οὐδέποτε (Never) ἐφάνη (was it seen) οὕτως (thus) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) Ἰσραήλ (Israel).

38 δεήθητε (implore) οὖν (therefore) τοῦ (the) Κυρίου (Lord) τοῦ (of the) θερισμοῦ (harvest) ὅπως (that) ἐκβάλῃ (He might put forth) ἐργάτας (workers) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) θερισμὸν (harvest) αὐτοῦ (of Him).
